Your notes are interesting and the lotus flower has such a great application of color and light. Your shadows are placed very well throughout the image, making this look more like a photograph than a painting.

When I was just viewing the thumbnail, I thought for sure that this was a photograph.
I'm Nichiren Buddhist. The lotus flower symbolizes that life is eternal. We also use the lotus flower as an example of overcoming are challenges and hardships because the lotus flower blooms in muddy/murky water.

Cleo, you really created beautiful brush strokes in this composition. I had to look twice as I still think it looks like an oil painting. I like the way you created the waxy look of the lotus petals and how you have painted the with a translucency that allows your light source to pass through. Your light and shadows on the leaves are just terrific and your deep colors of the water add nice depth and dimension. This is a definite contender
