Really great shot, like how the buck is off center in the photo. Lighting good, brightness of the snow doesn't overpower the dark winter coat of the buck.Great nature shot with very good eye appeal.I have a lot of doe shots too,and I know what a rare treat it is to photograph a buck, especially in the winter. Very glad you had the oppurtunity and decided to share it!

Thank you so much SC for having a look at my new post....and I do appreciate the very fine review. Yes, my one and ONLY image of a buck....sounds like you also know how that goes...lol

This is such a lovely winter scene! The snow and the trees are beautiful. It's great that the buck is looking right at you. Have you considered cropping off some of the right hand side of the photo? You could crop off just enough to remove the large post in the foreground. I know that would be a large crop but it might be worth trying. However, I also like the photo as posted. It's a great photo!

I actually did consider it Barbara but it no longer looked balanced.....I'd have to remove 1/3 of the photo. Also, I'm afraid my editing program is not capable of cropping out such a large distraction as that broken tree so.... it had to stay. ...and only got two images before the buck was gone. Appreciate you offering your suggestions though. Thank you.

Much better Nik. I actually don't even get concerned until they say 2-3 FEET! So what we got yesterday was basically a big ho-hum...lol But understand it's not something you guys get very often over there. So good luck! Thank you too for the fine review here. Do appreciate it.

Glad you enjoyed the review. If we get 2/3 feet of snow it is regarded as a disaster which goes down in or history as legendary!

lol....I bet it does Nik. Hope it melts soon for you guys.

i was thinking that the deer may have said "oh S(*%!!" lolol. cool capture. the clarity is great. the angle of the shot of this surprised deer in the snow is great. the capture of the light is great. the image is balanced and eye appealing to the viewer. good eye and great job overall.

LOL...the deer may have said that MK but pretty sure I said something a bit stronger....lol. He surprised the hell out of me standing there when I came around the corner. Thanks so much for checking him out. Do appreciate the very fine review too.

Literally a cool capture.
Nice off centered positioning.
An interesting initial impact.
Did you make a sound to make him look at you?
My dogs will always run after goats and chickens who invade our jurisdiction...;-))

Subdued lighting.
Sharply focused.
Fine features & varied textures.

Good perspective & long depth of field...
(Haven't seen real snow yet!)
Thanks for sharing...

Oh I'm sure he heard me coming LONG before I saw him Dick. They think I'm part of the landscape. My dog Comanche did chase him but it's a joke....the deer laugh at him when he runs for them. Thank you for checking him out and do appreciate the very thorough review.

What a beautiful winter scene,
Perfectly enhanced by the capture of the buck. He definitely looks like he is posing for you with his head turned to face the camera.
Wonderful view and oh such
Pretty snow. Beautiful DOF and clarity, but wow, you really got a lot of snow.
Great shot Deborah!

Hi PeglegDeb

What a lovely snowy scene this is with the buck seemingly aware of the attention you are paying it. Looks calm and at home though. Thanks for sharing this! R

I think I've been part of the 'landscape' around here long enough Raoul that the animals are never intimidated by me. This guy showed no fear until Comanche popped up...lol Do appreciate you having a look at my new piece and thank you for the fine review you've given it.

Definitely a winter wonderland shot, Deb. The composition is just beautiful with the deer just off center to the left and the mass of trees anchoring the right at an angle that vanishes off in the far left. Very artistic and Christmas card ready. Brings out the cold of a Vermont winter - Brrrr!! Ed.

So glad I went out this morning Ed b/c the wind whipped up like crazy this afternoon. I'm sure this guy is curled up in those softwoods by now. So....a calendar page next year you think?? Thank you so much for giving my new piece such a wonderful review. I do appreciate it.

Great shot Deborah. Love his positioning and the turned head. The green spruce really set a nice bright contrast. I wish I was back home, at least for a few days. You once again have made me homesick:)

awww....Will you get back at all for the holidays Cindy?? I loved this guy's turned head too. He obviously had heard me while I had no idea he was there until I turned that corner...lol Soooo happy I got at least a couple of images. Thank you for having a look at my new piece....and for the lovely review.

Always an adrenaline rush, kind of like seeing a Bald Eagle. Probably won't get back but hope maybe next spring or summer.
reply by the author on 13-Dec-2017
It was the horns. I see females just about daily. The bucks are much more secretive. Now, a Bald Eagle....THAT would be REALLY exciting!
reply by CREZart on 13-Dec-2017
We see them here but not real often. I had one last fall setting in a tree about 20 feet from my back door but didn't see him until I opened the door to throw out some coffee grounds. That was when he took off. I cried for a week at not looking before opening the door. He was setting on a limb in the open, a perfect shot. :(

Oh that really sucks Cindy. Maybe he'll be back next year....
