Oh congratulations Allan on winning this very popular contest. Committee made a very good decision here!

CRISP CRISP CRISP!! Love that. You've captured the finest of detail....just gorgeous. I think the roughness of the wood behind your blossom was a great way to shoot this....both color and texture-wise. Nice natural color. Nothing over done....always like THAT too. Spot on w/ exposure as well.

A well considered and beautifully presented piece Allan. A worthy winner here.

Thanks much Deborah. This was an odd shot to get. It was a special display behind glass of miniature orchids. The light was dim, not tripods allowed and the camera kept focusing on the glass, not the orchids. So it took many shots to get this one right. I think in the end it was more luck than skill, but I will take that also!!

Again thanks for your comments, I do appreciate them a lot!!

Nope Allan....I'd say it was skill....and way to stick w/ it until you got what you wanted. Very welcome too for the review.

A lovely and very unusual orchid, I like the green and yellow colour palette with the earthy wood, sharp focus and clarity help to see all the
Markings on the flower, the light is great, and exposure on the yellow is very good. A very well taken photograph.
Congratulations on your win. Well deserved.

Congrats on winning the contest. Unusual color in this orchid. Well shot with good exposure. The background supports the image. Well seen. A favorite subject of mine.

This is a magnificent composition and a magnificent subject. I think the limited colors....many shades of green, yellow and browns...have made this a beautiful image to view. It is peaceful to my mind without the over saturation or textures of brilliant and beautiful flowers. This orchid is humble in it's beauty....but no less beautiful...but even more so for me. I can see the details in the leaves and the petals and the shapes that are so unique. Your framing is artistic...with the brown wood moving diagonally from lower right to upper left..and leaving room for those hanging and contrasting green leaves in the black bg. A very, very beautiful capture. Thank you for the knowledge re the number of species of orchids! Wow!!! What a wonderful place this must have been to spend with your camera on a chilly day! Thank you for sharing and best of luck in the contest!

Thanks so much for the great review. This was shot through a glass window in a showcase. The Sony wanted to focus on the window and not the orchid. So after many attempts, I finally got the manual focus to get the shot. I am glad you liked the image and took the time to evaluate its merit!

I wondered if you used the Sony. It is such a delightful little camera to cart around.. and you do an outstanding job with it! You are most welcome. This really is a framer !

You have pictured this beautiful orchid so well Allan, and it is amazing what a limited color pallet does for the balance in the photo. The textured brown wood in the background is just perfect together with the green foliage, and the flowers are standing out from this in the most excellent way.

This photo is really sharp and it is indeed clear and well defined details to be seen in both flowers and the leaves. The exposure is just perfect.

The cropping is very good and the two orchids have got a very good placement within the frame. Indeed a lovely and well taken photo with a very good DOF, and I wish you luck with the contest.
