I have always had a soft spot for photos with fog Cleo, and mostly because it is giving a place such a special atmosphere. I especially like how the first biker is disappearing into the fog, while the second is still standing out well. I also think this a photo looking very good in BW.

The trees on the right work as a nice and natural framing, and they are standing sharp and well defined against the sky. I also think the exposure is fine, and it is good distinctions between light and dark.

With your perspective it is also fine leading lines in this photo, and I think the way you cropped the photo is working well. Perhaps the left side has a bit too much negative space, but all together it is a fine balance in the composition. I think this is a great looking and well taken photo with an excellent DOF, and I wish you luck with the contest.

really atmospheric. great placement an unusual in both subject and a most foggy condition. the perspective is really nice to. the viewer comes to the first biker in white and then to a further darker, clad figure and then off back into the fog. it has been a very long while since iv'e come across fog, though london was made famous for having such. because of old industry we used to be known as the 'old smoke!' great to see you back and with a pretty stimulating image.

I guess all the "old smoke" came over to Texas now. We have a awful lot of it lately.

Fog oftentimes gives another dimension to a photograph and this simple image shows this to be true.

You have a very prominent diagonal line with the diminishing perspective of trees that takes us down towards the two cyclists and that gives strength to the shot, it gives dynamism that quality of excitement and movement.

Cleo, I tried to look for clone out repeat patterns and could not find any, you did a fine job. I would recommend that you take out the white sliver of a signpost that is slicing that tree in half...easy to do, just work large.

It is not easy to photograph fog because it acts like a soft box and diffuses light. Oftentimes it confuses the meter on the camera (much like snow does). Another feature of fog is that there is less light overall, which means longer exposure times are needed. Exposure value
compensation helps to fix this by telling the camera to expose at a higher or lower setting than it thinks is right. For very bright settings (like the snow or beach), set an EV value as a positive number (+1/3, +1 etc). For dark scenes, like you have here Cleo, choose a negative EV number.

This image is biased very much to overall gray. I remember Donkeyoatey's words to me and they echo in my head as I study your photograph "it needs more exposure".

I hope that helps.

Thank you very much for your throughout review and valuable advice. :o)
I have actually a version where the bus station post is cloned, but did not like it. Without the post there seems to much negave space on the right and the street looks too "nice". I know Mike was always asking for exposure, but his creations were different from what I want to show. I admid that I created the softness in purpose.

Valid points Cleo, I'm not sure I agree with your assessment.

I can see those little bikes and riders upon enlargement. They are tiny specks in this photograph. That is probably what you are trying to do and it does show off the clarity of the image you captured. Thank you for sharing and best of luck with this image

Fog adds an element of mystery to every location in my experience! Like the triangulation of the trees in your photo which leads our eyes to those cyclists. Well done and good luck!

I took some similar shots yesterday but they were riding motorbikes...

One of the hardest condition to capture is when it's misty or foggy...
An artistic rendition. Monochromatic colors. Excellent details & features. Impressive setting & textures. Thanks for sharing...

The fog definitely adds interest and mystery to this black and white scene of the two bikers. The diminishing tree line leads your eye into the scene. Nice composition and lighting. Good luck in the contest.
