This is such an interesting looking moth. I guess many of them are. I like how well the unique antennas stand out and that you were able to get all of the 'eye' designs on the wings. I think you did a great job getting the texture of the fur/hairs on the head and back to show.

A beautiful insect which is shown in great detail and beautiful colors. I especially like the feathery antennae and the outstanding lichen covered bark.

That's a great title you've given your piece....and nice notes included too btw.

Sot on crisp focus....just beautifully well detailed. Very nice! Good natural color...nothing overworked....even the color of lichen has been left natural. I like that. It's well exposed and cropped close enough to give a really nice look at this fascinating little Moth.

Perfect entrant for this contest and you have presented this guy really well. Best of luck w/ it once voting begins.

Thanks so much for your wonderful review-actually this handsome guy(it is a male!) is about 6 inches from wingtip to wingtip-and was also very cooperative for me! :)

Looks like quite a good nature shot presented here, but then again I know nothing about moths! Your fine, full and central composition offers us a very enjoyable look at it. Could you please let me know where the eyes are? Thanks and good luck!

Thank you so very much for your review! This male is about 6 inches from wingtip to wingtip and is a member of the family Saturniidae(saturniids),a silk moth. In this case, the "eyes"refer to the large eyespots located on the hind wings,it's actual eyes being located on it's head below it's feathery antenna! :)

Nice shot of this strange looking moth. It is interesting to look at and is very detailed. The background is also very interesting and cool colors that show off the moth well. Good luck in the contest.

what a fabulous photograph. Focus and clarity are supreme. love the setting on the lichen covered piece of bark. It contrasts with the colouring of the moth brilliantly. Well balanced picture with the moth centred upon the bark. Such brilliant markings on its wings which you have captured to perfection. Your title works well with those beautiful markings that do resemble eyes in the human mind. Thanks for sharing this amazing shot.. stunning ... and best of luck in the contest.. cheers mel

Beautiful view of this moth
Show casing all of its wonderful detail and color. I love the symmetry and incredible patterns they have.
Sometimes can be more interesting than butterflies.
This is well done with excellent clarity and pin sharp focus.
Best of luck in the contest.

thanks so much for your review! This was my first year with the polyphemus moths, this was one was a very cooperative model.Part of one of the old oak trees fell into the road and I had my husband save me some sections with the lichens on them to use as backgrounds. I actually have about 5 different types of bark that I often use including paper birch and pine!
