Congratulations Allan. I love how the light goes darker to lighter. This draws you in to see what's at the other end.
What a very detailed and intricate piece. Love it.
You definitely deserved a win on this one.
Thanks for sharing

Thank you so much Linda, it is very nice of you to post your comments on this shot, I do appreciate that very much!!
When I took this shot long before the contest I had noticed how the light pattern got lighter as one went down that hall, that was the rationale for the shot. Then when this specific contest came up I knew right away I was going to enter it. Lucky in that way. :)

Not lucky. Very talented. :) I happy to be able to review your work.

I keep going back to look at this in your portfolio. I love the architectural symmetry vs the impressionistic art created by the passing of time on these bricks and mortar and moisture and minerals.
And you have given all of the above the best of the best in lighting and shadows. This structure has probably never been rendered so artistically.
When first viewing this it had somewhat of an optical illusion...for my vision anyway...with whether that smallest arch opening was forward instead of behind the others.. I think it is due to your use of light and shadows....and where they naturally fell in this structure. I also saw these openings as windows at first instead of hallways.
It is intriguing to imagine standing where you were..which seems to be in the dark and dank of this Fort.
A dramatic and detailed photo of a work in architecture that has sustained it's strength through the decades.. Thank you for sharing !

I love reading your way with words, like poetry no less.
I can also see the optical illusion of the light arch being the closest. Hmmmm, do we need bifocal adjustments? Ha.
This was a very interesting shoot. The fort is rather large with many dark and wet hallways and rooms (it leaks!!). Some areas have artificial lighting that helps with shooting images. Some just have windows and doors for natural lighting.
The black square on the left side of the image was for a gun placement that shot out of a small opening.
Thanks again for your words and time, I often feel my thanks are inadequate!

Well, you inspire words with your photos my friend.. you are most welcome.

I think this is a great entry into this contest, and apart from the lovely light, I also like a lot the fine textures to be seen in the brick walls. Another detail is the fine reflection from the bricks on the wet floor.
Your photo is nice and sharp showing clear and well defined details in the walls, and the exposure is perfect.
The photo is nicely cropped and the arches placed in the center makes for a good and well balanced composition. I think this is a truly lovely and well taken photo with an excellent DOF, and I wish you luck with the contest.

Thanks Annie, nice review. Glad you noticed the reflection on the floor. It rained the night before and this historic fort leaks like a sieve!

You are more than welcome Allan.

Well done! Your focus, framing, and lighting are all good. I really like the angle you have presented here that shows off the different sections of the hallway, almost like adding layers. You did a great job and I thank you for sharing this with us :)

That's a really Cool picture,Allan!
The famous Apache war chief Geronimo was held prisoner at Fort Pickens, wasn't he?
This scene ( with the bricked over wall which might have been a gun emplacement at one time in the fort's long history ) has the sort of Mysterious look to it that I really like a lot,my friend!
'Good Show'!

Thanks Sean. Yes Geronimo and other Apache Indians we're held captive at the fort. Interesting place to visit and also photograph.
Thanks for the review.

Well taken shot showing the architecture of the vaulted hallway. There is wonderful detail in the shot highlighted by the reverse progression of the light. A very nice sense of depth. Nicely seen.
