This is a lovely scene of the gulls at the beach at low tide. I love the colors in this scene. The varying shades of blue and turquoise are so appealing against the whiteness of the sand. I like the pale turquoise reflections in the damp sand. It is well deserving of your first place win. Congratulations!

Thanks Linda for taking the time to comment on this image. I am glad you liked it. I am surprised it took first in the contest.
I too like the different hues of blue in the image. The gulls looked happy.

    Thanks again.

I think this is an amazing composition! I just keep expected the water and the birds to break into motion here on my screen. You have captured the movements that well..

The initial impact for me was the glassine sand and the gulls. The are as if on a mirror.

Your play of light and shadows is just amazing. The shadows are creating those rich ocean colors and strata leading to the deep colors of the clouds. while the light is just having the best time with those gulls and water breaking over the sand.

Your framing is expert. That diagonal beach line makes this a comfortable view for photographers everywhere. You know how we seem to be checking for all those things... level horizon included.. :D

Truly a pleasure to view.. Excellent control of saturation of colors. Someone would love to have this hanging in their beach home.... Thanks for sharing! And best of luck in the contest!

Thanks for your terrific review. While reading it, it is if the image came to life with your words. Your writing is an art form also!!
I think the reason most of us take images if to preserve a memory and a time. I can look at this image an still hear the gulls verbally sparring with each other, maybe over whose turf it is. I also feel the warm breeze of a early morning day.

Thanks for your time!! and high rating!!

Excellent camera technique on display here. Well thought out settings that have frozen the action on the beach

Good use of the rule of thirds.

Deep DOF with a far away vanishing viewpoint.

Color and tonal range limited to the left side of the K scale.

Framing this piece offers choices. For instance a high angle favors the ocean and the horizon. A lower angle favors and enhances the action of the birds.

It would seem that this piece is all about the birds. In that case a low angle will bring the birds up out of the sand. Their features will more readily be seen and the in flight birds will be more dramatic. One other side benefit of low angle - the shadows will appear longer and higher in contrast.

Keep taking these walks there is always something worthy of a shot ... B-)) Bob

I love to walk along a beach at low tide! You have photographed this well, the image is clear and well focused, your light is well controlled allowing the natural beach colors and natural colors and tones of the gulls to show true. Well composed with good placement of your horizon line. This is beautiful to view, the gulls bring life to this scene, I like that I can see some of their reflections too! Well presented!

Thanks for your review of this image, I appreciate it a lot. When you have a low tide, you can see many more life forms I would guess. Nothing like being near water to make one feel good. Thanks again.
