I love this photo. I am partial to the Pileated Woodpecker. I really like that you captured so much of the tree with the interesting texture. The bird looks a little beat up but that adds to the interest.

Sesha,
A beautiful picture of this beautiful White Bellied Woodpecker pecking away on the rough bark of the tree trunk. The golden light behind is an added bonus. Beautiful composition framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

Excellent choice of subject.
An artistic rendition. Monochromatic backdrop colors.
Excellent details & features. Impressive setting & textures.
However, getting closer to your subject create more initial impact.
I'd consider cropping the sides to get a more defined vertical format...
Just a friendly suggestion though...
Thanks for sharing...

Your title is perfect as this is a woodpecker, I love his pose on the tree , the surroundings are natural and I am sure it was awesome to see him in this park. Your subject and the subject for this contest is the bird, therefore the bird needs to be well focused and clear to view, with visible details and show in his natural colors and tones, it's especially good if you can get a clear shot of his eye. Here, your focus is on the tree, I can see that it is a bird, but it is very soft in focus, and difficult to see his details. It is a good try, I hope you keep shooting. Birds are a bit difficult to capture, but they are fun and it's awesome when you get a great shot!

You right very right. I noticed the poor quality only after I posted it--in a hurry --on an impulse. Thank you for your comments, suggestions. Much appreciated.
