Hi Deb, I just love this unique and fantastic shot of a poppy seed pod.. fabulous exposure and such excellent clarity show its individual make up perfectly.. and of course ,the angle used offers the best of viewing to really study each individual section of the pod.. In my crazy imagination, my mind's eye sees that velvety crimson top as resembling a starfish.. yes, a little lost in its placement , away from the sea, but nonetheless, ever so stunning on top of this amazing pod... giving an outstanding display and visual appeal. That contrasting blue green pod beneath tells me it is the storage bowl for so many natural wonders that eventually shall aid in the production of new and upcoming generations of poppies. the black vertical lines on this vessel are an interesting inclusion as those few remaining seeds slowly peel away from the central dish to pop into the earth below. The seeds themselves on their slender stems appear as if they are doing a dance.. celebrating their freedom to disperse into nature's field beneath them. 10,000 odds seeds hoping to rebirth ... in your garden... oh what a joyful scene that would make.. Love the green hue used as a background. the brightness that slowly dissipates as it draws to the outermost border of the picture, creates a most complimentary and eye appealing backdrop to make the pod pop... Love the slight blurred effect on the top section of the picture.. adds to the mystifying appeal of this joyous seed pod. I wonder if that crimson velvety hood has a sticky nature... to attract insects .. Appreciate your informative notes to accompany this delightful seed pod .. excellent clarity allows the mind to really appreciate the intricacy of this fine specimen. Such a pleasure to share your photo Deborah .. a wonderful eye opener to the structure of the ever so pretty poppy plant.. much fun and a great joy to review.. smiles from mel

My power went out yesterday Mel (it was like a cyclone here) so I am just seeing your beautiful review here. You are just a doll Melyuki! btw, that velvety hood is not sticky.....the seed pod drops all those seeds so it doesn't need to trap insects to do it's work for it...but very perceptive of you! Anyway Mel...thank you so so much for having such a good look and writing another just really delightful review then topping it off w/ a shiny gold star!!! I appreciate it as much as I appreciate the care you put into your reviews!

interesting flower and excellent notes about it

good supporting blur background, good focus on the flower and details

the saturation looks a bit over done, but not enough to take from the rate

thanks for sharing

Pleased to hear that gg b/c did not in any way mess w/ the saturation of this piece. It is exactly as it was in situ (in my gardens) Thank you for a fine review for it and happy you enjoyed the included notes.

A very interesting seed pod, thanks for the artist notes,
Your pin sharp focus highlights all the different elements and detail, the pod stands out clear against the blurred back ground with good light and natural colours.

Amazingly fa fabulous plant!
Interesting artist info notes!
So each brown thing has minute seeds inside, right?
Excellent choice of a rare subject.
I know that this has something to do with sleep when I first read the word somniferum in its scientific name...
Sharply focused.
Fine floral features & varied textures.
Backdrop color pops out the subject nicely.
Nice perspective & narrow DOF.

Can I have some seeds my friend as I'm having insomnia due to over reviewing! ;-))

Thanks for sharing...

Each little brown thing encircling the seed pod is a seed capsule Dick. There are thousands of seeds associated w/ each pod.....and the plant itself is not rare (I have them in four different beds) but they hybridize over the years....seeds would not help w/ sleep...lol Thank you for the very fine review. Do appreciate it.

This is a superb macro shot of this interesting seed pod. I think they have as much beauty as the flowers from whence they come. I like the variety of colors and textures you captured in this composition as well as the angle.

One of the very few flowers I grow that I prefer photographing AFTER it's blossomed Linda.....so have to agree w/ you there. Thank you so much for the really fine review. Do appreciate it.

A beautiful image. The tight framing is perfect and the image is remarkably sharp. Being colorblind, I rarely have the audacity to make a negative comment about colors, but from my perspective this background has to go. I don't know how but I would change the color.

LOL.....This particular grouping sits in front of a bed of Daylilies MM....several of which have the most unnatural color green foliage I've ever seen (beautiful flowers though) THAT is what this green is and as I don't ever change backgrounds (or anything else for that matter) had to go w/ it. This season I may try photographing them from a slightly different spot. Thinking this color must have REALLY gotten to you if you're colorblind....lol Thank you so much for the really nice review- (minus background color that is)
