The straight on view works well on this flowers with all the layers of the petals. The depth looks good and you have captured a lot of detail. I like seeing the bud in the frame too showing off a couple of stages of the flower's life cycle.

Globular subject within a square format.
Fantabulously striking against pale verdant foliage.
Sharply focused.
Fine floral features & soft velvety textures.
Subdued lighting.
Nice perspective & narrow DOF.

Thanks for sharing...

The Dahlia is one of my favorite flowers too! This one is a real beauty! You captured the beautiful vibrant red color so well. Excellent sharpness too.

I don't think I've ever actually seen Dinner Plate Dahlias, but I looked them up online and saw pictures of them. They look amazing!

They really are ! The blossom is about 9 inches across! I had one in kind of a peach tone!

    Your welcome

This red Dahlia is really popping out from the frame because of the vibrant red color of this lovely flower, and I like that also a bud is included. The background is nicely softened for the flower to stand out in an excellent way.

Your photo is of course also nice and sharp showing such clear and well defined details in all the petals, and the exposure is very good.

The tight cropping has worked well and I think the flower has got a fine placement within the frame. Indeed a lovely and well taken flower photo Pat, and with a very good DOF.

A very nicely cropped image. The bud is exceptional though maybe a touch bright. The colors are great and the background is complimentary.

The subject is dominate.
The detail in the petals are
sharp. Receding from dark to light. The yellow green bud adds just the right touch to your flower. everything stands out, super...rj
