WOW Eileen! This is a stunning shot. He certainly does appear to be giving you some attitude and, you have captured it beautifully. I love the tight cropped composition. Let his beauty fill the frame to create this awesome portrait. The details you have captured are something to see. Your handling of light, colors and white balance show great technique behind the lens. A joy to view. Thanks for sharing him with us all. :)

You captured some fantastic detail of this guy's face and his plumage. I really like how much texture stands out and how nicely defined the feathers look.

I have never seen an up close pelican. He is amazing looking. I love the up close and detail of his look. Great focus and good lighting, and framing. I would love to paint this stately male bird. Would you be willing to email me a photo? I would give you credit for the reference photo.

Hi Eileen thank you for sharing this awesome Pelican with attitude.. wow. so different from the Pelicans here in Australia. I love your title .. suits him perfectly. great angle used to capture this unique feathered friend.. It really brings out the best in his personality . I'm amazed at the beak he wears. He looks as though he has gone for the fancy dress parade with that unusual formation in the lower part of his top beak. Now if I turned him upside down, it almost represents a fin on the bottom of a surfboard.. lol. however, back to reality. there appears to be an interesting pattern within the structure of his beak also. your well focused and perfectly exposed picture makes the clarity amazing. Got to love that ornate twirling that extends from the beak around his eyes. Never seen anything quite like that before. How bizarre. one wonders if it gets in the way of his eyesight at times. I must say his eye looks very focused on you and your camera.. I can't quite figure out if he is impressed OR NOT.. love the flare in his head feathers. that is ever so charming, gives him a very dignified appearance as he poses there .. do you think he jelled it up for the occasion. Incredible vision of his feathery coat. the tawny breast feathers appear a little wet. I can see he also has a black marking on his wing feathers.. makes me wonder what pattern he is hiding with his wing all tucked in tightly to his body in your photo. Great background colour. the dark hue really makes the pelican pop.. yet the visible foliage offers great textural value and a sense of depth to your picture.
the Pelican is well balanced in the scene and has a very proud emotion emanating from his portrait. Attitude or not, he's amazing.. thanks for sharing the American Pelican.. he has been a total joy to review. cheers mel

I agree Eileen, this is indeed a bird with an attitude, and I especially like the eye contact you had with him when the photo was taken. It is also a perfect background in this photo, and the bird is standing out from it in an excellent way.
Your photo is pin sharp and it is such clear and well defined details to be seen in every part of the bird. I also think the exposure is spot on.
The photo is nicely cropped and the bird has got a very good placement within the frame. I think this is a great looking photo, and with an excellent DOF.

A beautiful shot. I don't believe I have ever seen encrustations like those in front of his eyes and the wild hair look makes him all the more impressive. Fine exposure and great colors.
