I understand this pink - when we emigrated to New Zealand, we got to Hawaii at 4 am and my one clear memory was the pink of the sky and living in New Zealand, till my clock wound round, I would wake at 2 am and watch the pink dawns, slowly turning pale blue from my window. You have obviously experiened the same. Superb. I daren't paint the pink, because here people sniff at me if I do!

Thank you for your five star vote, your time and your comments. Yes, I have seen the sky filled with pink clouds, more than once in New Mexico.

Very good use of the color pink in the dramatic sky. I love the perspective of the mountains as they gradually fade into the distance. Good highlights and shadows on the mountains. Good color choices. Good luck in the contest.

This is such a lovely painting. Did you do it in acrylic or oil? I love the way you did the pink and blues and your mountains look really good as well. I have never done a pallet painting before; I think it would be fun. Thanks for sharing and good luck in the contest.

Thank you for your five star vote and your comments. Hum, it is an oil painting. I use Winton paints because of the thickness or stiffness of the paint. I do not like painting with acrylics. It just doesn't feel right to me. If and when you try pallet knife painting be prepared for fear and frustration. The most expensive knife is the thinness and strongest one. It always is the best knife to use. There are times you must hold the knife like a hammer and there are times you must hold the knife like a scalpel. You will strike the canvas with your knife and want to go back to fix it only to fail. Colors will muddle. Your knife will stick to the canvas causing you to become frustrated because it flipped in your hand all by itself. After a few dozen mistakes you will develop self doubt and start to fear the next strike on the canvas. You will give up and return to your tried and true methods. But you will experience the knife calling to you. The challenge is on. Do you run in fear or attend to every detail to conquer the knife. Don't know about the fun of pallet knife painting but I do know the feeling of conquering the knife and producing a vibrant and passionate work of art is supremely pleasing.

Thank you for the description of the process and conquering the knife. I work with acrylics because I like how it drys fast. I will have to try doing a painting using the knife.

You have created really pleasing texture through the layering of your paint with a palette knife. You did an excellent job of repeating your colors from the sky as reflections in the terrain. Your abstract mountains are rugged and your diminishing perspective is well executed. The pinks and grays in your sunset are very nice.

Wow! Very good use of the color pink!! It really is eye-catching! I like the slope of the hills and mountains they add good balance for the beautiful, colorful sky! The palette knives have added a good texture to this piece. I really love it and it's very pleasing to look at! Good luck I the contest and thank you for sharing!! :D

Wonderful initial impression! I immediately notice the pink tones in the sky, the clouds carry the color across from right to left, I like the way the pink is worked in with the various tones ranging from pale blue to white and the deeper blue in the back showing the sun just beginning to rise.i have not been to this location so for me, this could easily be up in the Talkeetna Mountains I like the earthy brown tones on the left meeting with the green grass as the land slopes up to meet the mountains, still showing bits of snow. I like the way you show the lighting here. I really like this arrangement with 2/3 sky and 1/3 land, that is exactly how I would have presented this scene if I were to photograph it! This is beautiful, well thought out, very realistic and a true pleasure to view . It shows the ability of a talented artist .

Well thank you for you five star vote and comments Pat. Your review is once again very complete and actually targets the concepts of structure as well as problems I encountered in doing this painting. You have an eye my lady, you have an eye.

Creative concept. Innovative approach. Imaginative presentation.
Outlandish colors!
Outrageous image!
It can be even viewed as a tsunami about to wash out these solid mounds!
Fantabulous sunrise!
Aptly captured for the contest theme...
Excellent choice of subject.
Impressive entry. Potential voters choice...
This should do well in the polls!
Thanks for sharing...
