Maybe he's the old uncle to just stopped by to visit for awhile. Maybe hopping for a place to stay with family. :D
This is a lovely shot of the family. The little ones are so cute. Good focus and lighting. Well framed.

Hi Super, This image is fascinating! I've never seen a dark mallard before. I guess it crossbred with another breed of duck. Love how you made the shot a wide one and narrowed right in on this little flock. Very Interesting image! :o) helvi

This is full of life and motion! The whole family plus an extra male are on the pond together! I like the way the ducks and ducklings fill this frame! Well presented, interesting to view, I guess we will never know which of the Drake's is the actual dad!

    thanks a lot pat;
    I think it is the dark one because, he is always closer to the babies, they are darker and during several days he was chasing the resident male

I guess they are going to need a DNA test. That dark male is quite a bit larger than the mallards which seems odd. I have never seen such a duck. It seems quite content to be a member of the family though.

    I was sure it was another species but Sandra indicates it is a mallard duck.....
    you can see indeed some green color on his head

A flotilla of ducks, who would even notice one. more. Nice sense of movement and I like the diagonal orientation. Interesting that one of the ducklings is leading the way for the group, under the watchful eye of the adults. Good color and detail. Well seen.

Fred,
A beautiful picture of this "two-timing" Mallard Duck with her young family & two very different Drakes vieing for her attention, one a "normal" Drake the other larger with much darker plumage. Beautiful composition framing & light that is dancing on the surface of the pond lighting up the ripples. Taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

This is such an intriguing story. I want to know who their dad is too. It seems odd that the breeding male would allow the second male anywhere near his female and their brood. We will just have to wait and see.
