oh Grace, you are soooo lucky to be able to see a loon. I'm impressed!

Perfect capture with that red eye perfectly clear and a great visual of him swimming. Your colors are wonderful and your whole shot just impeccable

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Outstanding job on the black and white and the red eye! Birds with black heads red eyes are a challenge. White balance was controlled Perfectly here GG!
Focus, details and stop action all spot on.
Fine work behind your lens!
Bravo!

This shot is so deserving of a 10 plus but unfortunately
I only have a six to give it!
The incredible and outstanding detail and color you captured in the feathers is what is so eye catching.
I can't believe the beautiful pattern shown on its back and the gorgeous view of the water! Totally awesome, including the red eye.
I loved your artist notes as I have heard of the different dialects between the same species of birds and ducks.
It's so amazing they have so many sounds and calls for different purposes. Very informative, a really pleasure to read and see this lovely capture Grace!

a great capture of this common loon, ( I have never seen one before) superb detail on the plumage I like the little collar around the neck, nice detail with the water droplet, I might have just
lightened the face a little to make the red eye stand out more, but a wonderful photograph with very interesting artist notes, nice work.

Thank you kindly! I did play around with lightening the face but it took too much away from the green tones for my liking. I agree that it would be nice to have that eye stand out more :)

Another great shot! You capture all the detail in your subject. That red eye almost glows! Demon bird! I also like that the water looks like liquid metal. Adds to the surreal feel with the Loon's red eye.

Lol! Thank you for the generous rating. You are too nice. I am glad you like this one. It was tough to get those demon eyes to show, lol! He had to face the light just right, but I was patient.

Patience is a virtue, but in photography it's probably the most important skill.

I have to agree with that!

A very nice shot with sharp detail in the plumage and beautiful color on the water. A beautiful specimen whose eye is barely discernible in the dark plumage of his face.

What a pretty water bird. I love the abstract white designs in the Father's on its back. The dotted ring around its neck looks like a string of pearls. The red eye is striking against the black head feathers.

Grace , the artist's notes are amazing ! I had no idea of the massive size of this animal !
I always assumed ,
maybe the size of a duck . So what's the smallest .
I love the calls of your loons . I picture a Summers evening with the windows open and the birds going crazy .
I've been called a lunatic many times but my therapist says no worries your not related .
Minnesota ..I think of the Vikings and the Twins... sports nut . But ten thousand Lakes !
Hunting and fishing are huge . right .. what's your favorite shotgun ?
I'm thinking a Mossberg ..
Thank you for sharing ..

Omgoodness! I don't know how you guessed a Mossberg.....Maverick 88. But I am not a hunter, I empathize way too much with animals. The Maverick is part of my home security, lol. Lunatic huh....are you sure we aren't related?
Thank you for the grand review and six star rating! The Red throated loon is the smallest at 25 inches long. They are also the only loons that don't need a long take off from water and they can take flight directly from land if they have to, which other loons cannot do because their legs are so far back on their bodies; they can actually get stranded on land or ponds that are too small for take off, and they ultimately perish under those circumstances. Not such a happy ending to that story - sorry about that!

So you fish ? Yeah , I guess we could be related . My father was a piano mover .I understand the loon taste a lot like chicken .
