Fred,
It's definitely a Hover fly though I can't tell exactly which species it is. A beautiful pucture of the Hoverfly sucking nectar from the centre of the Wild Rose. Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & razor sharp focus.

Harmonious colour
Palette, close square frame works well and draws the eye in.

I like the multiple layers of the petals of this flower. They create a lovely backdrop for this insect. I, too, think it is a wasp because of its narrow middle. The transparency of the wings and the details on the body are excellent.
