I love Cosmos, too, and have some orange ones in bloom now. Pink is my favorite color and your single blossom and bud is simply spectacular. The uplifted petals make this photo even more appealing. Great focus and background.

The picture is definitely worth a 6 but that is not why I gave it to you. I just hadn't given you one in a while. This is a fantastic image. I love the colors and I always like your narration. Thank you for sharing.

Flowers are somewhat therapeutic in the way it releases an emotion of the unconscious. This is so beautiful. The colours, light and shadows and the composition are perfect. Thanks for sharing!

What a signature shot. Was this done with the flashlight technique at night? I love the textures I the petals and the wonderfully contrasting yellow center. The red unopened but adds such a nice touch. Really nice one BB ~ BB

Flashlight BB...yes...and Comanche does not hold it very steady you know. Told her she was going to lose her job once you showed up! Thank you so much for the lovely review you've given it. Always appreciate your thoughts.

C-O-N-T-R-A-S-T!!!

Back in the day, if I had to show my students a picture of sharp, highly defined, ultras short scale contrast - this take is the one I would chose.

What makes short scale contrast so eye appealing, at least to me anyway, is edge definition. When the line between, say absolute black and a contrasting flower petal is clean, clear and sharp like a razors edge the visual effect is impactful and attention getting.

The fine detail of each petal is even displayed over the entire take - a keen eye here.

This is photographic art of the highest caliber and should be treated as such.

After careful review I can find no flaws with this presentation and is totally deserving of my rating ... OMP

You have made my morning w/ this really wonderful review (picked raspberries yesterday so missed it....as well as discovered someone had pumped it up to top position.....missed a lot yesterday didn't I...lol) So pleased you had a look at this one and were so generous w/ your thoughts on it. It is so far one of my favorite Summer 2018 florals and I really appreciate the review you've given it....as well as the gold star you shared. Thank you....so very sincerely.

This raspberry colored cosmo and it's darker bud are so striking against the black background. I love the way the light gives the bud a berry like sheen. The delicate darker veins in the petals are lovely and the yellow center is just superb. I am getting ready to paint a composition of cosmos and thistles.

What a lovely image to view, Peg. It caught my attention right away. Love the bold purple color and the little darker bud next to it. The black background makes the flower pop.

Perfect symmetry, perfect shot! Wow, what a first impression this beauty makes, Deb. Your lighting technique combined with the dark night background makes this one pop right out at us. The detail of the center as well as the petals is superb. The little upturned petal is just the right touch of character. The extra wow for me is that little bud peaking from behind which takes an already perfect shot to the stratosphere! Love it. Ed.

I have wild ones but planted a patch of domestic ones in my Daylily bed. They have gone CRAZY this season. Will have blackberries in another month...THOSE guys are my favorites.
reply by shoregrass on 16-Jul-2018
I like blackberries more too. Lucky you. I muss the blueberry picking from when I was a kid in Massachusetts.
reply by the author on 16-Jul-2018
The blackberries are wild. Grow mostly in the sugarwoods....but there's close to 3 or acres of them...lol A ton... so if you're up this way in Sept. I'll take you picking.

Excellent close up, Deborah, showing this beautiful Cosmos in your garden in the evening light and thank you for your informative notes, as always. I can see why they would be called Sea Shells as the petals do show markings you see on some shells. Excellent lighting and focus showing a lovely crisp image. Lovely composition. Suzanne
