I had all intentions to review this painting, and then suddenly it was gone. I am not surprised at all that this one became the digital painting of the month, because the wolf looks just adorable. Never thought I should use that word about a wolf.

I especially like the way you have used the light, and how well the textures are brought out in the fur. This is of course also done paying very good attention to details, and with excellent brush strokes.

The olive green background is perfect, and so is the format and framing. The wolf has got a very good placement on the canvas. This is indeed a beautiful and well done digital painting Cleo.

Really great use of the media, the brush strokes used to create the wolf's fur, is spot on and very believable. The flow of the strokes, the colors there gives his fur a wonderful tactile feel.
The negative space color blending is really nice as well, works in good harmony with the main subject.
I do think that you should have shown the nostril with a little more definition.

Have yourself a good day.
Be safe.
Cheers.
Lucien

Cleo this is an excellent artwork of the wolf who definitely appears to be smiling. I am like you and know little about the animals as we don't have them here in Australia. The colors and textures you have achieved appear very realistic to my eye.

Another one I missed from the past, Cleo, and so glad you brought it back. It is just stunning. All your research on getting just right paid off because it just comes to life when viewed. Superb rendering. Certainly one of your very best.

it is a beautiful artwork ..you have done full justice to the wolf..with closed eyes he is looking innocent..you have nicely captured the fur ...the best part is his mouth..beautifully done..composition is very good..and i like colour harmony in the subject and his surroundings...looking forward to see more paintings in this series...

We (supposedly ) don't have any wolves up here in upstate New York anymore either,Cleo,so I'm enjoying your great looking digital portrait painting of this specimen a lot!
( My family name is derived from an ancient Celtic word that meant 'wolf' so these animals have always been sort of special to me! : ) )
'Good Show',my friend!

Love love love Cleo. The research that goes into it - amazing. I think it's a success indeed! Love the detail of the fur, totally love the 'smile' with the closed eyes. Beautiful colouring.
I don't know how 'ArtRage' actually works, its simplicities or complexities, but the result looks lovely. :)

Keep creating,
Ann, OpenroadFootprint

ArtRage is a program which open a plethora of opportunities. I use only the tools which resemble traditional painting tools. For this kind of painting it is definitely helpful having experience in traditional painting and drawing. :o)

A very good winning image posted here! Your fine, full and off-centre composition gives us an enjoyable view of smiling wolf. Looks like it is being blinded by sunlight? Like the fur detail. Nicely created!
