this is a very lovely work and a great one depicted in a series of equine portraits. the nature aspect is very special and has a mystic type quality. you have made a picture with strong emotion and also loving the various details, especially the realistic snake. nature bonds in many amazing ways. for most of the time our fellow creatures live in complete harmony, even at times of hunting, or being the quarry. man can so quickly destroy this perfect balance. the bonding of mother and son (or daughter), is evident and pleasing to view. for the best part, horses have no violence in their bodies and you have showcased them trotting along in a loving state.

Thank you so much!! Do you have a dog? Your son has some fish or bird or something doesn't he -- or he did? I got very enthused about English budgies when in England. I got some while in Texas that I gave names to and kept in my apartment. I brought in a big dry branch of a beautiful smooth red wood called Manzanita from the semi-desert wilderness, and they lived on that. I made their branch and housing very decorative; I kept it very clean too -- easy to do if you have them eat in a curtained area. They sang a lot -- they can have very nice songs when a group of them gets together. I swamp you with pictures as it is, but will scan some prints I have of these birds on their branch you can just look at but no need to archive them! I was terribly upset that I had to give them away to a breeder due to my unstable living situation. One of my birds who I gave to and old man for his birthday -- a show budgie -- according to him, learned over 70 words and several phrases before he was fully grown. This yellow-headed budgie played ball and would fetch like a dog on command. Many people witnessed this other than myself -- the bird was like a little trained dog, yet he was not even trained!!! He just did these things spontaneously his owner said. After that other people wanted my birds for pets!! My life has always been too messed up to be consistent with much though. It didn't help that I ended up escaping those perverted Bible slapping Sunday school teachers in Texas -- had to get out of there in case they came to kill me as I was a witness to their shit they tried to pressure me into participating while I was working for one of their wives. The were wealthy people -- not skid row... I found many wealthy, respectable people to be a real menace!! Daphne

yes you are correct daphne, we do have pets but not the ones you mention. my boy has 5 massive giant spiny stick insects of 5 inches in length. 1 leopard gecko and 1 tortoise. those birds you kept are incredible and can just imagine them talking to. only recently scientists have discovered that a species in the crow family and cockatoos can actually make tools. apart from mankind these are the only creatures that can do so.

Should it come easily for you, I would be interested to see a photo of the stick insects, or maybe just tell me the name and I'll find a photo on the Internet. They sound really interesting! HUGE! Oh I think I found them -- Phasmatodea. Yikes! One species from China measures 22 inches! Extremely interesting creatures indeed! As you can imagine, I am always intrigued by new and extraordinary creatures! As it turns out, no need to send me photo or name after all... I wish I would run into a very knowledgeable naturalist sometime who could tell me about the more unusual jungle and rain forest insects, reptiles and creatures I either encountered or heard about! Those stick insects certainly qualify as something strange though!
On another topic, I was thinking of your quip about fixing me a cup of tea if you dropped by, because imagining that resonated with a metaphorical claim of mine that most of the people who have been helpful to me in my life have done little more than as if to offer a cup of hot coffee to someone who'd just crossed a water-less desert! Hah! I am sure someone must have offered to make me a cup of tea in my life, yet I don't think so! The quip sort of ricocheted off my chakras (sp) as so unlikely that the person could not be speaking to me... A cup of tea -- especially herb tea --much better than my figurative cup of coffee! Thanks for the thought -- my reaction was a feeling thing, not something I analyzed at first. Strange life! Nice flavorful wild mint grows like a weed around here -- I like to brew herb tea out of that; I'd certainly offer to make you some if you did drop by! Enjoy and have a great day! By the way, I did email you a photo of a couple of my birds, but maybe the scanner isn't working well because none of those photos taken with a flash are scanning well. That is why I just sent the one. I really like birds and was interested in what you told me about crows and cockatoo species. I have experienced many strange sort of phenomena to do with birds and also had them adopt me out of nowhere. On Valentines one year a Lovebird came to me when I was walking down a sidewalk-- someone's escaped pet I expect, and another time a male mallard duck and pigeons out of nowhere on a couple of horse farms adopted me. The mallard waddled behind me like it thought I was its mate or something. I took it to a reserve to protect it from the farm dogs -- it let me pick it up -- no problem. One farm owner called me the Piedpiper of pigeons! One cream colored pigeon slept on the mat outside my door between my boots and then followed me around the farm walking, not flying, for months. Sometimes when the farm dog became a problem trying to chase it, it would perch on my horse's butt to keep out of harm's way! The horse was fine with the pigeon -- they were buddies! Then when I worked as a hospice nurse, I always knew when someone had begun the death process because I heard birds singing similar to the early morning no matter what time of day it was. At first I thought the phenomena was a coincidence having to do with climate change, bu then realized this was something only I could hear. An Irish psychic who saw me one time who a friend took me to meet, actually started in surprise when he looked at me -- not sure what he saw, but he said I had an unusual ability to communicate with birds; he called them "God's messengers. I thought that seemed to fit considering I heard them very loudly when someone died... Have a great day (and have some mint tea on me!) hah! Daphne

yes i will certainly show you the insect pics as they look good and you can see the type of scale they are. they are so very calm and of no threat. birds are very interesting indeed but my knowledge of them is not as solid as other groups of animals. we now know that the dinosaurs turned into birds, so they have been around since day one. is truly amazing you had that experience in a hospice. that must have been very strange to have heard morning birds but as you say, a very strange happening that can't be explained or at least hard to pin down. i'm sure some indian tribes, who live within nature can communicate with animals.
reply by the author on 07-Jan-2019
Yes, hearing birds singing in connection with death made me really wonder who I am. Do I have some Indian in my ancestry? My mother said my skin was strangely olive-toned even at birth. This makes no sense with English, Irish and German ancestors -- but who knows -- right!? Many of my experiences seem more like something, as you say, that an Indian might experience, or at any rate, someone from an Earth Mother culture. I got so I could predict bot birth and death -- got fired at one farm for being 'a witch" even though I only predicted a mare was going to foal early. Then after the difficult birth I concluded that the foal would die if it was not handled carefully and put on oxygen. The owners of the farm were very competitive and at first refused to believe a mare would foal while they were away for the weekend and refused to give me the name of their vet, so since the birth was not only breach but the fetus was on its back with the umbilical cord around its neck, I had to turn it and deliver it myself. I delivered it alive though and the mother also lived -- a virtual miracle. When the owners returned they refused to believe my story, so the foal, who definitely had been oxygen deprived, died within three days although it behaved normally. That was when I was fired after two weeks for being a witch! I could detect when a mare was about to foal on any noisy farm because from the direction of the mare it was as though a "bubble" of silence reached my ears. I NEVER missed a birth -- or death for that matter. Birth was silent, as though due to the young being having no history in this life yet, whereas death was noisy, as though full of experience metamorphosing int another existence. These experiences have been uniquely mine in my experience so far. My take on the implications is something I can only guess though!! Love to see photos of your very interesting stick insects when you have time! Daphne

FABULOUS!! Thanks for sharing that history about your name -- sounds similar a bit to my father's accounts of everyone in his regiment (right term? getting blown up 3 times and his being the only survivor. Not likely that fate could manage to be so selective with today's weapons... Lovely restoration and clean up of my horse and bird photos!! So sweet of you! By the way, I drank way too much coffee while on the island that I got from the Mexicans who periodically came over to build trails, as well at other times of my life, so no longer tolerate caffein very well, but found a much healthier sunbsitute truck drivers and nerds over here in America are using to go without sleep. The amino acid l-Tyrosine. I lived on it in a sense for years -- I get 750 mg capsules and take as many as 3 at once; also the co factor vitamin b 6 is necessary to make it work well. just a 100 my of the b6 will do. Good to take a nutritional supplement as well as all these nutrients empower each other. Caffeine just thrashes your adrenals. It is cheaper though! On my bottle of tyrosine it says "Supports a positive mental state and healthy stress management." Now I have switched to a combination of Tyrosine and l-tryptophan. The tryptophan is relaxing and will help that tension from too much keyboard work!! Also helps that "brittle feeling." Dario, Mario, and Django are lovely and fabulous! Django is way more exciting looking than the stick creatures I found on the Internet! Beautiful tortoise; My father bought me a desert tortoise when we were on mainland Mexico when I was five that was about that size that I named Slow and Solid. I traveled everywhere with him until age 11 -- on freighters, airplanes -- in cars and trucks. But when I was 11 some Mexican urchins grabbed him from me and ran off. When visiting my grandmother's house in California I would tie "Slow" by a long cord by a hole drilled in the rear of his shell and let him eat grass and myrtle flowers in my grandmother's back yard. I would scrape big piles of the fallen flowers together for him and he would mow the mounds down like Parkman! When traveling with suitcase I just stowed him in a box in my luggage! So sorry the children stole him from me -- Mexican street urchins were never nice -- gangs of them, and they disliked foreigners. My mother was understanding of the reasons they were this way, but I found it harder having to face them! Thanks so much for uplifting support!! Have some hot chocolate and vitamins on me! Try the multivitamin, tyrosine and b6 and perhaps tryptophan even if you have to budget for it in your piggy bank -- you WILL thank me!!! My vendor only seems to be carrying 500 mg right now -- in that case 4 capsules can be necessary. Can take it more than once a day https://www.vitacost.com/vitacost-l-tyrosine-500-mg-100-capsules?q=L+TYROSINE+700+MG&ta=L+TYROSINE+700+MG

PS--- One of the activities I enjoyed participating in with my father in the oasis village of San Bartolo (you worked on those photos showing faint dirt roads, one of which is on my desktop -- the clearer one with one palm tree) was collecting reptile specimens for the world famous at the time, San Diego Zoo. I'm not sure how many of the specimens arrived alive, but Geckos were one of the specimens. They were similar to what your boy has. Also, a snake w front legs and a big colorful lizard such as blue rock, collard and other gorgeous medium sized iguana types http://thereptilereport.com/baja-blue-beauty/. My cat would bring me many species unharmed that I would keep for a few days and then release. Some sported all the primary colors -- they looked like parrots. Their skin smelled incredibly sweet, like the bouquets of flowers they ate!! I made little harnesses for them and tethered them to small plants with piles of food around. My cat would watch over them and make sure no predator harmed them. She was half Siamese and could even chase off foxes!! Enjoy! Your fan! Daphne

Have you ever thought, assume finances were not an issue, what you would like to do most? I have done so many things and found so many subjects interesting I hardly know! It would be hard to decide if I had the option. After I survived my near fatality in the hospital beginning of 2017, therapists were concerned that I focus on working on goals and thinking about what I wanted to work toward, but I said the same to each one. I said I wanted to work toward having less stress and difficulty dealing with difficult personalities, and that if that were achieved, I thought I would be happy doing many different things! Hah! (Anything to do with insects, plants, animals and the wilderness I suppose is always high among my interests; not any specifics goals to do with them though.) I am supposed to check in with a therapist next week who actually says I don't need therapy because I fix myself, but my medical doctor wants me to see her periodically anyway. I know she will ask me again about my goals. Oh I know, I would like to really focus on improving my physical body mechanics, get back in better physical tone and flexibility etc. All this keyboard work is not exactly productive along those lines! Enjoy! Take care -- perhaps ponder minerals, vitamins, healthy proteins etc at your end?! D

I tried to message you in my message center, but the field won't respond to your name, Mr. Jones -- won't even accept the M, but it will for supergold or others. The reason I tried messaging you there is that rather than messaging here, it is the correct place of course. My reason for wanting to message you is that you might not know you are listed in the top ten mixed media artists for 2018 on the welcome page; the funny thing is that when I hit your name in the list another member's name comes up instead. Maybe this is just my "buggy" system and it is okay, but I thought you might want to double-check your name on the welcome page for yourself, and if you get someone else as well, maybe let Tom know to get the glitch corrected... I guess being listed in the top ten for the year you might get more promotion or, who knows?.. I am there too, in the top ten for digital artists... Now you have a cup of conjured up un-glitching magic flying carpet potion" on me! I'll have some here too! Daphne

that is a very interesting question my friend. i'm not really sure but if a large sum of money, i'd like to open some sort of small museum. concerning what i don't know. just i have such random collections all stored away, mostly in boxes. i'd love a large room i could have them displayed. saying this i found a great maltese cross i forgot i ever had. will photo it for you. is very odd and has a russian motif in the center. it could be representing some type of masonic lodge and is of some age. yes the best of luck with your health...

PS from Daphne -- I look forward to the historic cross!! Also, I was sloppy with my terminology on my Masonic "book" ; it has nothing to do with symbols etc; it is a novel which, as I understand it, most Masons believe to be a true story psychically channeled, which they also view as a spiritual guide book.. The story is quite an experience! I didn't recognize any content to be pertinent to me and my weird life with my parents though, even though my mother viewed it also as a guide book even though she was not really a Mason... enjoy! D
reply by Mr Jones on 09-Jan-2019
that is really interesting my friend. yes maybe you can help identify the cross. it does look lovely in appearance. has a two headed eagle in the center circle.
reply by the author on 09-Jan-2019
Unfortunately I do not recall all the info from my father's books, but the two headed eagle stands for "empire". Center circle was found w ancient Celtic crosses, but cultures borrowed so much from other cultures it gets really confusing and I am now convinced the arms of my "window cross" were connected by inverted, convex lines of a circle, but only found that on the Internet when I was in a hurry and then lost it -- have not found again -- but came across it when looking up versions of crosses to do with Malta and Knights Templar so think it originated out of that "trail of breadcrumbs" somehow -- perhaps it is really ancient...
reply by Mr Jones on 09-Jan-2019
oh yes i'm sure you have a good instinct on the origins of the cross, that you witness. yes when i get it of the camera, i will send you for sure.
reply by the author on 09-Jan-2019
Very exciting! Don't hurry though -- me and my life and interests can become quite over whelming -- even to me at times! That is when it is good to just settle into a frame of mind where I might simply meditate on the sensitive world of some insect like your stick beetle! I had lots of opportunity to study intriguing beetles, ant lions etc in the natural setting while growing up -- there are many interesting micro dramas to be observed in nature if one only watches! On envisioning a museum, maybe a name like The Jones Mini Museum of (London?) -- then watch it grow huge just as an entertainment! Hah! Well you need to bet on a few winning long shot horses... you never know! (not encouraging gamboling type speculation though!) I do recall though how I needed money to bring my father and his Guatemalan children to the US. I made the decision to do this first, and then boom, I made 1500 dollars out of left field by investing 200 in a start up company. The turn around was within two weeks. It was a one time opportunity with that particular company. You never know! Step one is intention -- that is how fanatics manifest...

I will have overwhelmed you! In any event, if you get the time, here is some more of my "road music." If you saw the moving movie that sure portrays what there is not to like about the colonial British like my father, The last of the Mohicans, staring Irishman Daniel Day Lewis, don't bother. It is the theme music which gets repetitive if you are not driving across the United States, but it is great for driving -- like constantly spinning wheels driving to lookouts into the great spaces of this country. Have you ever been to the US and seen the aw inspiring open spaces? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvYuNfCLRio Daphne

LA, terrible place to visit! Reply to your astounding review in a bit! Have visitor coming to stay for a couple or more days and associated hassle in this not especially accommodating space -- another strange "story"!... D

Thank you so much for your eloquent review Mr. Jones! Yes, I hope this black mystery horse actually does rule one day. For two years this screenplay about my Azulejo horse, his ghost horse mother, and pearls that have hidden meanings for the one-hundred year old man who found them, (also ghost lights thought to be from pirates who fell to their death looking for gold in a Spanish nobleman?s grave), was seriously considered by German American producer Roland Emmerich who last I read, was the most successful all time producer or director of films in all Europe. In America he directed or produced ? forgot which ? the film 2012 among others. But the initial funding for my film project from the Bavarian Endowment for the Arts was declined, so he did not take it further. Also, in the middle of all this I began to fear with good reason that without a literary properties attorney I could not afford, the entire project would be rewritten in German, the concepts changed and the authorship transferred and I would never see a cent! In the end I was glad this project was dropped by him. They wanted to make my lead character German (my lead was already half German in my story ? I had done that on my own) and to make it more of a German colonial story. I have written a book and screenplay both. I might have sent them to you, but if you want them again, just let me know. If you like this art, you would surely like the story more. Topaz Abbott read the book 3 times before surprising me with the music! I also got three large publishers interested in it, including Harper Collins who had it reviewed by seven editors in the end including the ?big cheese? top editor, but the market was changing and the company reforming. They said that even so, they would have taken it had I been a known author! Being an unknown author worked against me quite a bit.
The horse I based the story on belonged to a wealthy man in LA Paz. The interesting thing about this horse is it was like a throw back to the fine-coated Akhal-Teke in which the gold gene shows up that you made mention of in a review of a photo of my stallion. Only in this case, the horse was glistening blue-black with a frosting of white hairs, making it also a kind of roan. I gave up on trying to show this in my figures for the video?. THANKS AGAIN! You are a very eloquent ?six star? reviewer! I bet if you had the time, you could help me spot areas in the story that could be improved before re-submission once I finish the video! LOL! That is what the video is for ? a next stage marketing tool? Have a great day! Daphne Oberon

Thank you so much for your kind review. It is very much appreciated. I just got asked about the chain -like vines in my Old Trail post, and since you also did a nice review of that, I will include my answer to "supergold" about the vines.... These are the "Tarzan swinging vines" that used to have tall trees to grow up, and now that there are none, they are gravitationally restricted, and grow in chain-'like lumps because they cannot stretch up or out as they swing from the trees...

Wow! This is wonderful presentation! Nice balance of colors. The moon glow is amazing, the shadows are transperent, good depth. A snake is a nice touch, first I thought it's your initials. I love the highlights on the manes and tails of the horses. Nice frame. Perfect harmony and composition. You deserved the highest 6* rating!!! Good luck in the contest!

Daphne,
A beautiful & atmospheric picture of the Mare & foal striding forward on what looks like a dried upriver bed the moon light casting it's soft silvery glow over everything the shadows on the Mare & foal are an added bonus. I have no idea how you created this image on the computer, I can only use Pencil, brushes & water colour paints to create my paintings on paper. What ever you do the result is beautiful.

Thank you so much for your appreciation! I actually like this one too, and hope it does well. Actually, I just use a pencil and fill the colors in, in Adobe Illustrator -- something I haven't heard of other digital artists doing. The only special effect I used was a flare effect hidden behind the moon...Other digital artist would understand the flare. I taught myself, which accounts for the different technique I guess... Thanks again! Daphne

You did a beautiful job on this piece of art work, I see reflection and shadows at the right angle on the ground from the horses and on the horses compliments of the moon, as well as the dark and lights on he mountains in the background compliments of the moonlight.
Beautiful sculpture like features on the horses, the little one is very cute!
I enjoyed viewing this!
Beautifully done!
5 Stars! :)

I had a friend who passed away about 4 years ago, he did rhe same type of art as you, and was very good, and when I saw your piece, it reminded me of him and his art.
So dont grumble about your work, it is very good, I always thought my friends art would be recognized one day but his family took it offline sono one would take it.

I look forward to seeing more :)

I am so glad you decided to post this one again. Thought I had lost my opportunity. This is a most enjoyable picture to look at. Your color control is just perfect, as is your shading with the single light source. I also think it is framed perfectly. The leg shadows of the horses completes this almost realistic scene. Reasons for my five star vote.

I don't know much about this medium of art so I can't offer any good suggestions or critiques, but I enjoy the scene. The horses have good form and show movement. The moon and the moonlight look great and I really like the texture of the foreground and the way the shadows are placed. The snake is a sneaky addition :)

A fine composition using the moon and its light to illuminate the left side of the picture, while the whites of the mare and the foal's tails, manes, fetlocks, and facial markings on their dark bodies leads your eye into the darkness to the right. Nice use of light and dark.
