A creative Digital Art of the blue-black mare and foal. Nice use of light and shadows creating depth and interest in your image. I love the Blue Moon and the way the light shines on the mare and foal and the shadow created in the foreground. Your color pallet is beautiful with god details....and your shading and blending of colors is skill fully created. A fine entry into the Color Blue Contest and good luck. This is very nice work and thanks for sharing.

Hi Daphne thanks for sharing this peaceful scene of Mare and foal sharing a moment of joy together under the glow of that magical blue moon. I have absolutely no clue how digital art is created, but you have really captured an emotional joy in your picture. The moon is nicely positioned in the evening sky and I love the shadowing inside the moon itself. it almost reminds me of a world map on a globe.. interesting shapes which caught my attention. Loving the radiant glow that flows outwardly into the night sky. it fluoresces beautifully and is appealing to the mind's eye. The deep blue-purple sky with its scattered stars helps set the scene below.. The mountain range and the tree line in the distance is a lovely inclusion, adding to the interest in your scene.. Love the curvaceous lines of the mare.. stunning and the fluorescent sheen on her mane compliments her grace and beauty as she romps through the meadow. The same fluorescent glow on the foal's tail brings a lovely feeling of harmony to both horses. the mare's tail is delightfully rendered, giving her a swift and stately appeal, in contrast to the little tail on her foal which gives it a youthful bliss. Love the differing shades used on their hooves.. brings them to life as they prance together in the field. offers a delightful character to both of them almost like dancing shoes .. giving the scene a fun filled joyous emotion. Excellent use of shading to promote their shadows in the foreground.. a lovely inclusion bringing depth of field to your picture. the earthy floor is a nice contrasting hue against the blueish hue in the sky.. and the colour used to render the horses bodies. they do pop against the blue tones. loving the little snake wriggling on the left in the foreground. brings its own interest and story to your scene. There is a pleasing feeling of bond-ship coming from the mare and her foal which delights the mind's eye. thank you for sharing Daphne and very best wishes in the contest.. it has been a joy and much pleasure to review. cheers mel

Thank you so much for your generous rating and in depth review!! I like my horse graphics best because they are are based to some extent on a large portion of my past. I don't really know what color these horses are really, as it is more or less a black horse with white mane and tail. I saw a stunning, well conformed horse like this in Baja in the early 1960's, but since it also had white hairs in its coat, it was called a blue roan. The trouble with that is that a blue roan is usually a pretty unflattering color. Generally, except for selected areas, the horses in Baja are of rather poor, common quality. But in those days the big cattle ranchers controlled the breeding of their best horses with amazing results. I wrote a book I never promoted because I wanted to change the name to one that would be better recognized on the Internet, and also edit the Spanish, but the old book is still available with Outskirts Press, under the title, AZULEJO, which means blue roan. Who knows in the end maybe I will keep the title and just edit the Spanish... A friend of mine wrote music to the screenplay of this book, but I have not been able to get any producers seriously interested in it so far -- oops no, i did a few years back, the producer of 2012 Roland Emmerich considered changing the main character to a German immigrant and producing this in Germany, but the first financial endowment from the Bavarian Endowment for the Arts never came through. On top of that I could not afford a literary properties attorney and could see the whole project getting taken away from me and my never getting paid... long story... Anyway, Azulejo is still available in paperback. Actually, I see it is on Amazon too, but copies from the first printing it looks like. If it interests you ether buy the latest printing directly from Outskirts Press self publishing, or send me your email at daphneoberon@gmail.com and I will email you the shorter screenplay. Have a great day! Daphne Oberon

Your handsome horses don't prance. They dance! Lovely painting with sublime evening colors. I like the shadows at their feet, evidence of true artistry and your keen observation skills.

Love the blue/black horse. It is cute that you have a signature snake in the couple I have seen. Their faces have such expression. Well done!

I love it. Digital art never ceases to amaze me. People have no clue the time it takes to create works like this. I love the tone, the color and the shading. Excellent job on this one.

Excellent choice of subject.
Aptly captured for the contest theme...
Better if subject was rendered bluer than blue! ;-)

Nice addition of the snake for an added feature for the eyes to wander!

Great blue moon but I prefer to have the cute horses as title subject, my friend...
Just a friendly thought though...

Crisp & sharp outlines...

Effects backlighting.

Good perspective & long depth of field... Thanks for sharing...

Thank you for your very positive review. I don't think I can change the name now, but if I could, any suggestions? I don't know why, but this image took me half a day to upload! I was told that having only two words in the title would make it easier, but I don't quite see that. Anyway, that was why I gave up and named it Blue Moon. Blue Roan mare and foal is way too long....(@#$%!)
reply by Dick Lee Shia on 01-Sep-2018
How about just Blue Roan?!? ;-))

I don't have difficulty uploading no matter how long my titles are! ;-))

I believe you! That is why I question the title explanation given to me by FAR. It is the Twilight Zone -- I can't figure out the real problem. The file was certainly small enough.... Anyway, if you can think of a good alternative horse title for this one, pass it on! Have fun! Daphne Oberon

Wonderful initial impression: I love horses, so I immediately like this digital artwork with the blue black mare and foal with white mane and tails walking on the plain , the motion shows in their foot positionsI love the way the blue moon illuminates this scene and casts a shadow to their right on the ground, I like the lavender tones in the sky and the neutral tones on the ground, the hills in the red tones and the trees in green in the background. This would make a wonderful illustration for a story book ! Very well created and presented, a pleasure to view! Best to you in the contest!
