I like the angle you used for this lovely shot of the beautiful Owl, Grace, as he perches on the rock peering knowingly down at you, head looking sideways, with the bright blue sky making the perfect background. Excellent lighting and focus showing a lovely clear image. Great composition. Suzanne

A great image captured of this owl, like the eyes and the textures and colors in its feathers, great focus in the details, a pleasure to look at, thank you for sharing, dale

This is a great shot of this awesome night raptor. (A Mexican friend gave me a young one as a birthday present. For some reason it was entirely gentle and would gladly sit on your knee or shoulder, so I have great respect and admiration for Great Horned owls. It is possible that mine was ill to begin with and this was why my friend was able to catch it with his bear hands on Cerralvo Island. Oswald grew up to be larger than any Great Horned Owl I have ever seen at a zoo, and lived a couple of years on what I could find to feed him; mainly raw meat strips that I would wiggle in front of him and an occasional hen's eggs, shell and all. He fell dead one day as though from a heart attack while cracking an egg. His head dropped on his breast and that was that -- a split second demise. But as I say, this bird was almost too gentle to make sense. I would actually call it affectionate since it liked being stroked and cuddled much like a cat. "Oswald's" favorite place to be stroked was between his "ears" on the top of his head. Like I say, he grew to be absolutely enormous and for a long time seemed very content. He did hiss at the cats sometimes, but other than that he seemed totally at ease and self possessed. I have an old print of a black and white photo that is really to small to post, but I will see what I can do. It would not be acceptable for a contest.) So any way bottom line is your photo is greatly appreciated!
Thanks for posting this well focused image a great horned Owl! Daphne Oberon PS (Oswald was more chocolate brown and white though than this zoo owl here. Looked like Common Great Horned Owl
B. v. virginianus; Thanks for humoring me!)

Thank you very much! I think it's interesting that you had an owl as a pet, sad that he died so suddenly though.

HAHAHA HAHAHA HAHAHA! I empty the sky of stars for your humor and facts on Mr owl and Purdue University for the Tootsie Pop licks!!!!
And the counting.... I am one Blessed girl who gets to hear your owl impression anytime I need a laugh.
It's a nice shot of this owl. My guess is you took this behind glass. Focus is a tad soft on eyes and would like them lighter.
Still it's a Nice view of him looking down on you.
It reminds me of Snoopy when he sits on his dog house looking down.
Thanks for the Tootsie facts Greenie!!
:)

A nice looking specimen with a clean background. The light on the feathers is great and gives you wonderful detail but his eyes are shaded and quite lacking in detail.

Nice capture of the owl. Was it moving? The shot doesn't seem as sharp as usual for you. Interesting face (maybe some more light would have helped) and feather pattern. The "horns" are always amusing. Well seen.

Thank you for the nice review. He wasn't moving. I think my removal of the distractions messed with his ears a bit.
