Well there is no doubt about it. You are the master of the pencil. I do enjoy seeing how you can get such a depth of exchange in values between the degrees of shading to shape the form and establish the background to support that form. I also like seeing how smooth your textures are. Of course the portrait is spot on. Reasons for my five star vote.

This is a well done portrait of this young man. It shows him with great potential, but a bit of a wild streak. Nice shading and texture in the work. Whatever his issues are now I hope he finds a way to overcome them. Good luck in the contest.

Beautiful portrait in pencil of your sister's son, Eric. I hope he soon is in a better place. I like how you show the different textures of hair, skin and clothing so well. Excellent light and shading. His eyes are penetrating as he stares right at you. Love how you've drawn the scarf and jacket. Excellent drawing. Suzanne

Hi and thank you for sharing this brilliantly rendered portrait of Eric, your sister's son. I recognize your work so well.. So very sorry to hear of Eric's journey in turmoil.. my thoughts and prayers are with him and your family...
Your attention to detail is true perfection. Through the use of shadowing , you have refined his facial features so beautifully. the shading that stretches across his upper brow, helps to accentuate his finely shaped eye brows, which help to enhance his soft and appealing eyes.. excellent detail used in creating his eyes.. capturing a glimpse of his soul in the process. seems to be a deep thinker who analyzes life in great depth. his inner strength shines through, which must bring hope at this moment to you all that he will battle through his hurdle and given time, find the peace he is searching for.
excellent shadowing used to define his nose and the shape of his mouth.. such fine detail and brilliantly rendered. His jaw line is nicely crafted and shows off his handsome face well. The streaks within his hair offer great textural value and the long strokes give him a sleek and well groomed appearance.. Love the loose scarf that frames his neckline.. again the use of shadowing brings out the folds as it gently curves down across his chest line. The black jacket that folds away from his neckline compliments his paler complexion and accentuates his very blonde hair and skin tone.. You have cleverly brought out his beautiful soft and gentle emotion through your detailed portrait. A young man with determination, yet at times struggling to find his path.. The blackish background is a lovely choice and really makes Eric's features pop.. A handsome young man whom I truly pray , finds his way out of the tunnel and back to the light.. Your work of art excels in every way. impeccable detail and so very appealing to the mind's eye.. thank you for sharing Eric's story.. May happiness reunite him with his sparkle for life.. an absolute joy to review. best wishes to Eric and family. and every success in the contest. warm smiles from mel

This certainly is a professional, photo-realistic portrait done with great shading and lighting. This youth is good looking, which judging by how my similar looking cousin developed, can become a burden in our narcissistic society. I hope this young man eventually sees his way clear... My admiration for your work! Daphne Oberon
