Well, good food is worth fighting for out there in the harsh, natural world they inhabit! Your fine composition captures a good action moment. Exposure and sharpness are fine. Try using a really wide aperture on your lens with very high ISO settings to reduce the blur if you carry on hand-holding. Nice shot!

This is another busy day at your feeders with the five goldfinches enjoying a meal while I see two in a bit of a squabble, it seems the one on the inside of the feeder tray is trying to discourage the one facing it on the outside edge from joining them, this tells the story well , I wish I had these pretty birds at my feeders! I find watching them to be so entertaining, this is well presented Susan, it shows how these birds interact!

If you are looking to stop the wings you need a faster shutter speed. I would suggest a minimum of 1/500sec. In order to get such a speed on an automated setting you will have to increase the ISO. This could cause increased noise but I find that an ISO of 800 is easily within the range of most all cameras and that the newer ones can function well with ISO in the 10s of thousands.

Mike,
Thanks a million for your complementary review on this fighting Goldfinches. I dd try taking the pictures using the sports setting but it made no difference & made it harder to focus in the first place. NOT perfect but I tells a story.

Cute capture and love the title. The angle of the shot of this squabble at the bird feeder is great. The clarity is great. The capture of the light is great. The image is balanced and eye appealing to the viewer. Good eye and great job overall.

Great capture with your hand held camera, Susan, showing these scrapping Goldfinches at the feeder. Excellent lighting and feeding - you can almost hear the noise! I like the angle you used for this. Very good composition. Suzanne
