I can't believe that I think this guy is super cute!! Especially when they remind me of my arch enemies: the arachnids. It must be the angle you used to capture him and how well those claws stand out. The colors are very attractive and you caught some great detail. The sand covered spindly hairs on the legs are well captured too.

many thanks for your review,I had to lay prone on the sand to get the surf behind him. Fortunately this one was cooperative;they can be exceptional fast when they don?t want to be photographed! :)

An effective use of limited depth of field. The detail in the crab is quite remarkable and it is surprising to see so little middle ground. The low perspective is great and the ocean is beautifully soft.

Many thanks for your wonderful review!

This is a nice close up of the crab taken at his on level! The depth of field is good as the blurred background helps my eye focus on the crab yet still gives me a feel for his environment. Love the sea blues and greens as opposite colors to the crab's shell. Good luck in the contest.

Beautiful picture of the Ghost Crab on the beach it's black eyes out on "stalks" watching you closely, it's large pale claws ready to grab at anything edible it comes across. Beautiful composition framing and lighting taken with superb camera techniques and sharp focus.

So the aim of this contest is to capture a subject with a nice perspective & narrow DOF...
Sharply focused.
Fine features & varied textures.
EyeCATching image.
Gorgeous illumination with no blown out spots.
Eye level capture.
Natural setting enhanced the overall impact.
Nice perspective & narrow DOF.

Best of luck in the contest!

Thanks for sharing...

Thanks for the wonderful review, this one was more cooperative than most(didn?t have to chase it down),and I had to lie on the sand in order to get the waves in the background! :)

Wonderful shot!!! Good details and colors. I like how you were able to capture the ocean waves crashing against the shore in the background. Thank you for sharing! :) Jill

You have indeed captured this ghost crab well, and just as asked for in this contest, the background is perfectly blurred. Then of course the crab is standing out in an excellent way.

Your focus on the crab is spot on and sharp showing really clear and well defined details in every part of the animal, and the exposure is perfect.

The tight cropping works well, and the crab is well placed within the frame. A lovely and well taken photo with an excellent DOF, and I wish you luck with the contest.

Fabulous shot - I love the clarity and colours of the crab, with the blurred sea behind him. Nicely composed and presented - excellent work.

I hope he was holding on during the storm. Nice portrait of the crab with good color and definition. The waves in the background create a natural setting for the shot. Good lighting. Well seen. Good luck in the contest.

Would never have thought hat a crab could be associated with a ghost!? Your fine and full central composition of it allows us a good and enjoyable look at it. Sharpness and exposure are fine. Well done and good luck!

Many sincere thanks for your review! Ghost crabs tend to be nocturnal, though you can come across them early in the morning, especially if it is cloudy out. Normally you don?t see them out once the sun is high in the sky. Plus, the title is also a nod to the infamous English pirate,Blackbeard, who?s ghost is said to haunt Ocracoke Island!
