Winter solitude

A birch stand in a remote area of quiet

I know what you mean about the quiet of the forest. I've experienced it in snow covered areas like you depict here, but my favorite place was among the giant redwoods in California. The 'carpet' of pine needles and other debris not only deadens the sound, but also adds fragrance to the air. Your forest looks very inviting. I love the detail in the tree bark and shadows. Nice work!

Thanks David for the great review. I think we both put a mood to the setting, a favorite place for me to be. Many thanks.
I have been in the Calif. redwoods also, they are just amazing and hard to appreciate unless you see them in person.

This is a nice pencil sketch with sharp clean lines. Nice detail on the aspens. Little shrubs coming up around the picture gives it more complexity. The yellow bushes behind add some dimension. This might lack some depth but it is quite nice!

Your birch trees are very well drawn and painted. The small amount of greenery adds a nice contrast. Snow is well done as are the shadows from sunlight through the trees. Very nice.

What struck me at first sight when this propped up is the balance you have achieved . In terms of positive and negative spaces, placement of trees and the gentle coloring. Hence overall this is an impressive painting. Good luck!
