Great macro shot taken with excellent focus, you can see the individual scales.Like the emphasis on the eye spots, who wants to mess with something with that many eyes!? This isn't a photo of a morpho that is normally seen, usually it is always the gorgeous iridescent blue coloration of the upper wings,so this has been a real pleasure to view! :) LeeAnn

This is a spectacular macro shot showing all the very tiny "feathers" or hairs on the Morpho butterfly's wings. This is the variety I know that got so large you could feel them fan you as they flew by. Where did you photograph this one? Daphne Oberon

I don't think it is indicated -- a butterfly house in France? It must take a lot to maintain the tropical atmosphere! I am so glad these beauties are maintained in butterfly houses! Daphne Oberon

Yeah, I don't think I would mess with him either. Very menacing look to him. It is amazing how such delicate creatures have developed such a defense strategy. This is a very clear and beautiful photograph, SG.

It does look as though his wings have eyes. Very stunning. Your focus and macro shows all the details well. Lighting is good also. It does, however, seem to take up most of the scene. I might have backed out just a bit to get the top portion of his wing. Just a suggestion.

Wow this is so beautiful. I love how close it is. I love the way its standing. I cant tell if it's a moth or a butterfly. But I love that you can see the wing and the detail.

I often wonder if maybe it wasn't speculation on the part of some entomologist about these ocelli. Surely no one would suggest a similar theory about the spots on a leopard. A beautiful shot with sharp detail in the face as well as the wings.

Fred,
A beautiful picture of the underside of the Blue Morpho Butterfly ~ Morpho peleides with the four eye spots as a warning to potential prey to stay away. Beautiful composition framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

Quite a nice and dramatic butterfly photo presented here! Your fine macro(?) composition makes its wings look enormous! Sharpness and exposure are fine. Nicely done!
