A beautiful bird that is shown in great colors. I am sure that this is not amongst your sharpest shots. The circles in the background appear to be halation from backlight hitting something reflective in the background. Generally referred to as bokeh, they are often considered an asset. I would suggest that you use your longest focal length and increase your ISO to around 800 or higher so as to increase your shutter speed. I always have problems if my shutter speed is less than 1/1000 sec.

Jack,
For myself it's a great shot of the male Cardinal as he landed on the branch but not having the "Manners" to stay still long enough for your camera to capture him in sharp focus...it happens to me all the time. Keep trying & one day you WILL be lucky. Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques the focus is a little soft but who CARES you caught him.
