That is a once in a lifetime photo. The owl is gorgeous as he fluffs out his wings. The black background help the owl pop right off the page. I read how you got the photo and it is truly amazing that you captured this.

Hahaha! I guess the position of his wings does make it look like they are ears! He was quite the funny character :) Thank you Lucas for the great review and the six stars :)

Oh that is too much! The snowy owl is probably understandably a bit pissed off about the whole thing! This is an incomparably lovely, very professional shot -- love it. I had a great horned owl for a pet in Mexico -- so tame it would perch on my father's knee when he was sitting back on his day bed in his cabin on the boat. (This huge horned owl was too large to perch on a person's shoulder.) I hope this snowy owl at the show soon finds himself in a more congenial habitat. Thanks for sharing! Daphne Oberon

Thank you very much for your compliments and high rating on this one! I think it would be amazing to be around a tame owl. They are so magnificent. You have had a interesting life!

Oh yes, I loved that owl! A Mexican workman of my father's gave him to me for my birthday. As an adult I say to myself now that I should have just let the poor thing loose, but you know how kids are. A workman had left the poor bird tied by the foot on the Island of Cerralvo when he was over there digging out an old well for my father, but we were in the Bay of La Paz unable to sail due to problems with the port authority. So my father leased a fishing boat just to go over to the Island to get the owl. I put the owl up in the prow of the boat in a dark cubbyhole under the deck; but on the way back to La Paz bay -- 6 hours or so -- a storm blew up and swamped us, the outboard engines gave out and we were all near "gonners" -- me and the crew bailing water out of the boat like crazy while my father succumbed to seasickness -- yet forefront in my eleven-year-old's mind was concern for the seasick owl! Thanks to the direction of the winds and currents we somehow wallowed into La Paz Bay and the owl survived in apparent good health for months but weirdly choked on an eggshell it seemed. One moment he was eating the chicken egg -- just had some shell left that it was finishing, then suddenly it keeled over limp and lifeless. It was a very sad occasion because it was very sweet and I would even say ?cuddly,? like a big cat.... (I apologize that my outrageous stories abound! They of all genera it seems -- as diverse as my complex parents, who despite their various psychoses had genuine appreciation for animals -- not necessarily in a responsible way however. I actually learned to become far more responsible than they were concerning the care of animals.. ) An interesting phenomena in those days was that the wildlife on Cerralvo Island did not know to be scared of people. I am sure that has changed now with all the obnoxious tourists going over there to hunt big horned sheep. Even the lizards, you could just pick them up in your hand ? the fast blue-bellied skinks would come to eat crumbs out of my hand? enjoy! Daphne Oberon

This is great! Perfect timing for this pose. He is very well focused and I like the composition. The dark background makes him stand out well. Where was the bird show at?

Thank you! This was one of the Wings Financial Credit Union sponsored bird shows at the MN Zoo. They have an outdoor area there during the summer and an indoor spot between the Medtronic and Tropics Trail during the winter. I haven't been to any of the outdoor shows yet.

Wow! This is different to say the least. I have never seen an owl presented like this. I like it. I think this show was well worth going to. Very nice photograph.

What a rare capture. I imagine you were excited to see how well it turned out. So cute. I didn't know owls did that. Great well-focused shot and lighting is excellent. Really enjoyed viewing it.

That sure is a shot of opportunity and timing. I do see the membrane nearly uncovering his right eye. For the lighting and obstacles, you captured a really fine photo, even if you were being mocked. Interesting how his wings lay. Almost look like flipping ears. I can see his small black pokadots here and there. His toes are curled up, to almost appear to be little shoes on his feet. Those glaring eyes or eerie. Nice detailed shot.
