Great close up portrait of this heron! I like how the feathers on the top of the head are blowing in the wind. Great light and color. Excellent sharpness and detail.

Beautiful, light, color and appealing composition with this tight framed image of this heron. Such great character in that slouched over posturing and gaze. Love the curvature of the lines of his wing's plumage in the lower corner.

It sure was a windy day. Causing a bad hair day. Really fine detailed focusing. I can see the gold ring around his pupil in his eye and the very fine detailed shredded appearance of his wing. Nicely done.

Well Fred this is your Best capture of a Great Grey Heron to date.
When they lift this front feathers that is your tell you get any closer, He is gone.
Focus and white balance are handled perfectly.
I would suggest you lighten his eye. It would make a huge difference.
Fine close up ;)

That's a beautiful capture Fred, the gray heron has such a serious expression , it's almost grumpy as the wind is blowing his crown feathers , causing them to stand up! This is of course, well focused, the image is clear, exposure is well managed, colors and tones are natural. I see good detail in feathers , face and bill, good eye contact too, he is well placed in the frame allowing space for him to move into! Well composed and presented!

Boy, you sure do like Grey Herons. This image may be the best of the bunch. Good visual impact, positioning of the subject in the image good depth of field, and colors. If there is one thing and this I admit is nitpicking-- if you could just lighten the eye just a bit, I thick it would enhance the "stare" of the heron. Beautiful photograph.

Just a question, does the bird ever get tired of posing for you?
reply by the author on 22-Jan-2019
unfortunately I'm the first geting tired:last time, I waited 35 minutes before he captured a fish

You have indeed pictured this bird well Fred, and I like the way the wind is blowing its head feathers. You also have a perfect background, and the bird is standing out from it in an excellent way.

Your focus is spot on and sharp showing such clear and well defined details on every part of the bird. Also the exposure is the best.

I like the format you have cropped the photo into, and also the placement of the bird off to the left. Indeed a lovely and well taken photo, and with an excellent DOF.
