Well, that's how it goes sometimes in the natural world! Your fine composition does capture a rather depressed demeanour. The feather detail is quite exquisite. Well done and good luck!

This is lovely Fred. The clarity looks nice and shows off good detail of the plumage. The colors look good too. I like how the brightness of his bill separates him so well from the background.

You have captured this beautiful bird so well, and I especially like the simplicity of the photo with the plain light blue background. You have also captured the eye well, and the bird is of course standing out from the background in an excellent way.

Your focus is spot on and sharp showing truly clear and well defined details in the feathers, and the exposure is perfect.

The tight cropping works really well and the bird has got a fine placement off to the left. I think this is a truly lovely and well taken photo with an excellent DOF, and I wish you luck with the contest.

Very nice! I was going to say there is not a grey heron but I looked it up first and to my surprise I found it and could see it is from Europe. I love to learn new things. I can not see a difference in the grey and the great blue.

A very nicely cropped portrait. The details are well shown and the colors are very good. A fine pose and a great eye. Best of luck in the contest.

Excellent portrait with great detail. Every feather and irregularity on the beak is visible. The background is nice and quiet so you can focus on the bird.
Nice use of the rule of thirds.
Good luck in the contest.

A beautiful profile portrait of the disappointed Grey Heron eyes still scanning the water below in the hope it's luck will improve feathers puffed out against the cold. Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

Great looking close-up shot of the grey heron !. Fine example of bird photography. Your timing appears to be perfect and you have captured the disappointed look on grey heron's face very well. Good luck!
