I was pretty sure this was a Heron, but I did not know what kind. Do you know why they called a green when they have no green? Do they change from, or to green at some point in their life? The shot has a nice interesting initial impact. All the lines keep you looking, and the snips of colors draw you in. Information on the bird is always a plus. Thanks for such a view.

Thank you! I think the adults' wing feathers with the striation pattern are a deep tone of green when the light hits their backs at the right angle.

What an outstanding shot. I've never seen a heron in these colors. I'm seeing bright orange legs and feet, shades of gray on his body and head. Inner neck crisp white and the contrast color of copper on the back of his neck. I zoomed up to look for and saw the green spots throughout his wing area and tail feathers. Lastly his yellow in his beak and eyes. He nearly has the colors of a Male pheasant, minus the long tail feathers and red mix. Really a detailed, crisp focus. The reeds growing in background are the perfect backdrop. You must live near a sanctuary. Perfect !!

Thank you very much for the six star rating. I appreciate your thoughtful and nice comments too. I think these guys are pretty birds :) I would like living by a sanctuary. I'd probably spend way too much time there is I did! I took this at a wetland area about 25 miles from my home. Thank you again for your flattering comments and rating.

Excellent colors and detail. The slight glimmer of sun on him is perfect. It really brings out the beauty of the greens surrounding him. Perfectly framed Heron! Love it!

This is a crisp clear photo of the heron and its environment. The heron's features a quite clear including feather detail and his great watchful yellow eye carries some attitude.
Great picture.

I like the placement of the bird. There is enough space to the right so its actually looking into the frame. Everything is tack sharp and the lighting is perfect. Good composition.

Thank you for your highly flattering comments.

A very fine photo of this heron. The background complements the colors and is relatively uncluttered, and the birds own feather colors are well defined. I like his intent expression.

Nice shot!
I love photographing this bird. The colors are nice and always try to catch them doing something after I get a few nothings first. Very well done! It was a pleasure to view!

This is a beautiful green heron and you have photographed him very well, I love his proud pose and his placement in the frame in this natural surroundings that allows a good sense of this location. This is well focused, the image is absolutely clear, exposure is perfect, his colors and tones as well as the colors in his surroundings appear natural, I see nice clear detail in his feathers, face and bill and good eye contact. This is well composed and presented!

Oh hell yes! This is such an incredible image. I can just about count evey little feather. The background is unreal. It looks like a movie set or professional diorama you would see at a museum.
The diffuse light and fabulous textures. Nat Geo cover material. I have photographed these birds a lot and my images are not even close to this. I guess that's why I am an artist and not a photographer, lol!
Great work. I love these birds. I live pretty close to Audubon Canyon in Northern California actually.
