This is what I mean with a striking red filling up the frame.
It doesn't matter if it didn't occupy 80% as long as there's no other distracting colors around.
The viewers' attention would go straight to that cute beak, then eye and finally to the smooth cardinal red smooth plumage!

Impressive entry. Potential voters choice...
Best of luck in the contest!

Yes, it certainly is! No birds like this in my part of the UK. Your very fine nature shot is well composed, sharp and has good exposure. Like the feather detail. Well done and good luck!

Nice colors on the cardinal. You captured him well. The edges where you cut him out in photoshop are very bothersome. I like the detail in the feathers and the overall exposure is good.

This is an excellent capture of the bird and a good entry for the contest. The photo was well taken and is perfectly adjusted. The defined details shown are impressive, especial the eye with the light reflection and the beak. It appears that the bird has damaged its beak at the right and has also caught a little feather in it. The Cardinal stands well out from the dark background. The photo is well balanced and framed.

Thank you so very much for your review and six stars.
The beak is not damaged, what you see is a sliver of sunflower seed husk.

Well there it is! This in my opinion is PERFECT! The red cardinal is beautifully photographed with perfect focus, he is so clear it's as if I can touch him! I see beautiful detail in all of his feathers , face and beak, beautiful clear eye! He comes forward from the background and allows such a perfect view! Your exposurebis perfect and his colors and tones are natural. Very well composed and presented! Best wishes to you in this contest!

Wow, this is red!! I like the very sharp detail of the feathers and the nice light in the eye. I'm wondering if you used a flash on this guy to get the lighting. The softness of the background looks good too.
