I really like the expression in this woodpecker's face, and how well the read head is standing out. Especially the shiny eye is well captured in this bird portrait, and I also think the light is falling on the head in a lovely way.

The bird is standing out sharp and well defined against the softened background, and it is indeed clear and well defined details to be seen in the birds head. Both the exposure and white balance is spot on.

The format and framing is working well and the woodpecker has got a fine placement off to the left. A truly lovely and well taken photo Grace, and with an excellent DOF.

Great bird portrait. I have never seen a pileated woodpecker in real life so I appreciated this photograph. I know these are much bigger than the downy and red bellied varieties I have seen here. Nice crisp, clear photograph with beautiful color that is well contrasted against the background. Beautiful.

Wishing I see one here. I think we have them in Michigan. Our little woodpeckers just don't measure up!

A lovely portrait indeed. Your focus is pin sharp. Nice catchlight in the eye. Your lighting is perfect. The horizontal portrait composition with the muted rock wall as a background works so well. Love the colors! Thanks for sharing this beauty.

A good photograph of this pretty bird. I have them in my back yard as it is all woods. I love to here the noise they make their call. I also like to here the deep thump as they peck the dead wood. You did a very nice job with this. You were fortunate to get this close!

I like this work because it is so classical in its concept and execution and in its atmosphere; The light, colour and the composition have worked well. Good effort!

Oh my.....this is a stunning capture of the male Pileated Woodpecker. Your central profile is engaging. I like how well you captured the eye. Your play with light and contrast captures his individual character....wonderful expression on his face. Very well photographed with good lighting, sharp focus, and wonderful details on this gorgeous bird. Perfectly cropped and well composed shot. Outstanding work and thanks for sharing.
