This is a great painting of this gorgeous bird. I would love to see a Mauritius fody in person. You might want to check your Spelling. I only know this bird as a Fody not Foody.
You have his colors perfectly and his dark eye.
I am no painter so the only suggestion I have is if you could have created more fluff on his Downy feathers on the red.
I know in Photographing red I need to adjust white Balance on in order to get feather details.
It's a fine digital painting Cleo.

Thank you very much.
Foody is the original name used in Mauritius. Fody is the English version. I thought it would be more adequate to use the native name.
I am working on the fluff. Its complicated. I can not adjust the white balance in a painting the same as in a photo. :o)

Hi Cleo, You do such a wonderful job with birds and love the information you have provided with your art. Your little bird really pops against the cream and gray background. I like that you chose to paint it with the insect giving it a real life. Beautiful portrait.

This is indeed a great looking bird with the strikingly red head, and it is a pity to hear that it is in danger of extinction. I especially like the light colors of the background, because it makes the colorful bird to stand out so well.
The wing feathers and the golden brown body are well painted where the feathers are well defined in the wing, but the red head and throat lacks textures and shadows. This gives a kind of flat look.
It is however nothing wrong with the composition- The format and framing works well, and the bird has got a fine placement on the canvas. All together a lovely and well done digital painting Cleo, but the red feathers need a bit more work in my opinion.

Thank you very much for your throughout and critical review. The red feather look indeed un-distinged. The red gave me problems since the red feathers are very small and the bird has no markings on the red feathers. I tried a bigger brush but the strokes looked to bold, the feathers too big. I think now I took a too small brush, trying to give more detail but ended up with less. I am still thinking about how to fix the problem. :o)

Another beautiful bird accompanied by very interesting as well as informative artists notes.I love the sharpness and detailing around the eye and beak and I see it has captured an insect, for itself,or perhaps it has hungry young to feed.Love the vibrant red head and the detailing soon in the wings. Very lovely and well centered!

I enjoyed reading your artists notes and like your storytelling with your art work. A beautiful winter scene sets your background and compliments this gorgeous bird. A gorgeous digital art with good brush strokes and blending and shading of colors. Good differentiation and work with light and shadows. A beautiful color palette with wonderful details. I like the twig in his mouth and expression created. A creative and talented art work and artistic composition. Thanks for sharing.

A very nice image of this rare and endangered bird. The list of species on the brink of extinction is long and most likely related to our human activities. A sad situation but a beautiful tribute to this gorgeous bird.

This is a realistically made digital painting of the endangered bird! he appears to be doing justice to his name!:)The light and shadows, colours and the composition have worked out well. Good effort!

Hi Cleo!
That's a fine looking digital rendition of this attractive little bird,my friend!
As to it's 'critically endangered' status?
Extinction is just another aspect of the planet's Great Life Force in action. It's 'sad' but it's Nature's Way!

You did a very good job on this Cleo. The colors you used match those I've seen in photos, and you have good detail in the wing feathers. As always, the notes are enjoyable to read too.
