Your play with light and shadows is perfect as well. Since the eye is so sharp just draws us right into your scene. Your lighting, focus and details are incredible. What an incredible position you have captured as this cormorant is preening, well focused, the image is clear, exposure is perfect, the colors and tones are natural, I especially like the clear details I see over every part of this beautiful bird, love the lavender toned background . A very nice preening position and a great shot that captures the iridescent plumage beautifully. I like the colors and think that if you framed it vertically you would not have clipped his tail.
