What an incredible shot, Donna! Love those outspread wings fully extended. I kept looking at the photo trying to figure out what was on the hawk's back. You actually caught the blackbird too ! if this isn't a dream shot I don't know what is. The focus and lighting is outstanding, but what makes the image special is the image of the hawk and blackbird. You definitely deserve a six star rating! Congrats on winning the Action contest too! :o) Nancy

Kudos to you for having your camera ready for this unusual scene. The feather details on the hawk are splendid. How cool to capture the blackbirds protecting their territory.

Those territorial red winged blackbirds are ruthless! This is a great capture Donna. You did nice job isolating the birds from the background with flattering lighting.

I see this all the time at the Wetlands. The Red-Wings protect their territory fiercely. They go after Hawks, Herons and Egrets. They have the better flying advantage being able to turn on a dime.
The nests are not visual to humans unless you have a helicopter view. They build them in the tall reeds low. The wee kids are out in 7 days and then they cling to the reeds still depending on parents for food.
This is a nice action capture showing how tough the Red Wings are.
Very cool to watch right?
Great shot Donna ;)

A pretty good entry into the competition posted here! Your fine composition captures a brutal yet normal action moment in nature. Exposure and sharpness are good. Well done and good luck!

Nice shot with good stop action and sharp focus. I am always intrigues when I see the tiny birds take on large ones in protection of their nest or babies. You have captured this moment in the battle well. Good colors. Good soft background. Nice details. Well seen.
