What I love about this is that I immediately see the pride in the Fathers expression, it's impressive the way you show that in this painting , the boy is so happy to be with his dad and his expression shows that very well, I love the way you bring them both to life with your creation of their eyes, this shows the bond they share as father and son, and the love they have for each other, I'm not really seeing a caricature, I am seeing a well executed painting, without knowing this father and son , it's difficult to determine if it's an accurate likeness, I do see a very well created piece with strong emotional impact! Very well presented! Best wishes to you in the contest!

Pat that is such a supportive review i really appreciate. My definition of characature is loose. I am not sure what label to put on my portraits as they are not photo realistic. One commented the same as you ie not characteristic but more representational. I felt that was indeed a better label. The likeness I know is accurate and well received by people who know these guys. The little boy visited me with his mother and saw this on my easel and immediately wanted it. We let him hold it but he would not give it up so we let him have it and I have had to make a print copy for his father who is proud his son wanted the original so much. His mum has managed to swap them over, Angelo knows no different and his dad is so happy to have the original in his home.

I think it?s a beautiful piece, and hearing that the little boy wanted this would tell you positively that it?s accurate, the little boy recognized himself and his dad, that?s wonderful!

The affection between the two is palpable! Both look happy posing. To that end this painting has been rendered well.Especially that of the boy's. Good luck in the contest!

Does the committee allow other subject aside from the kid?

Sorry but no time to read guideline anymore...
Busy at the beach!

Great resemblance, I suppose!
Fine features & smooth textures.
Nice strokes.
I know its really difficult to paint human portraits with all the bilateral symmetries!

Best of luck in the contest!
Thanks for sharing...

Thank you fir your excellent review. I noted your comment on the rules so did a check and they do say "Artwork can be about anything but must fit the theme" the theme being children and babies so fingers crossed that I shall be ok. I do appreciate colleagues as you keeping an eye on things. Enjoy the beach work by the way.

You can see the pride in the eyes of the father. The child has very expressive eyes and you captured the joy within. I like that the piece is not photo realistic as it shows that it is definitely an artistic rendering.

It does not come off as a caricature of either of them, rather and interpretation of them. I think the boy is a stronger image than the dad. His smile is infectious and his blue eyes just sparkle. Nice details and shadings. Well done.

Thank you for reviewing. I appreciate that you say more representational than characature. I looked the definition up and it says exaggerating of some features often making grotesque. Well the features of eyes and elongated head were my representation but as it was not meant to be photo realistic I wasn't sure of the label so your 'interpretation' fits so much better.
