I think it is a job they enjoy :) The focus is a tad soft in the bee but the colors and markings stand out well. The flowers are very pretty. Are they lily of the valley? The bell shapes look so delicate.

Yeah - bee was a tad soft. Might be Lilly of the Valley.

I appreciate what you were trying to do with the shot, but your subject is lost in the picture. The flowers are brighter and in sharper focus than the bee so he becomes a shadow in the shot. It is hard shooting through glass and I am sure that didn't help. I think the composition is good and works. I think if the bee was more visible the picture and the story line would have been stronger.

A nice picture overall. however the flowers are in excellent focus but the bee is slightly out of focus. You can see some of it detail but not enough I think. Nice try. Good luck in the contest.

The bee is hardly see and is totally out of focus and since this is for an insect contest I think you have enter the wrong photo

Chuck,
A beautiful picture of this large Bumble Bee that might be a Bombus Grisecollis ~ Brown Belted Bumble Bee that are large bees Native to New York. It's probably a sterile female worker bee if its collecting nectar & pollen.
Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

XD I'm just imagining the voice of this overwhelmed bee in my head. The flowers(?) and leaves are stark and the bee isn't that fuzzy considering he probably wasn't exactly posing for the picture. Nice.
