It is an abstract and therefore subject to our imagination. It could be many things, but to me it looks like an old tree trunk burning inside. The background looks like air thick with gray smoke. I like how the colors change from the dark tree-bark below to the yellow fire above topped with white smoke tendrils. The tall format is adequate, but above the framing is a bit tight in my opinion.

Thank you Cleo. I am working on avoiding the tightness. I thought about it in the design and by the time I am done I have failed again, lol. I am just going to have to learn to sketch smaller!

Some things need time. You will master the tightness, just keep trying. :o)

This caught my eye with such impact. The volcanic eruption makes the viewer an almost hold ones breath in anticipation for the final eruption and the lava that is about to spew forth. Is it pending doom for the people below, or is this just the first sign of mother nature blowing her top so to speak.
Well done

I like what you've done here, Linda, using Steve's photo as reference. The colours all blend well together with your watercolours and gouache. I like how you've shown the different textures. Great composition. Good luck in the contest. Suzanne

Your hard work has paid off and is shown in the details and the colors you have blended together. The darker colors provide some nice contrast and help the image pop. Great job overall.

This is an excellent piece I can be hypnotized at the faces I see and the more I see it the more I can see. The color blend is very unique very nice I would have liked a little more vibrant flames but in general is awesome . Congratulations.

Thank you so much. I did not intend them to be flames...just glowing rock but everyone seems to see flames, lol.

Very good Linda it not only looks on fire but you can hear that roar!

Love the colours and that dramatic looking angles that you have done with rock face, fabulous piece and a great contest entry!
