Your perspective and point of view make this a more interesting composition. The focus of the mantis is sharp. It shows very clear details. The colors of the mantis are vivid and clear. Well worth the stop. Good luck in the contest.

Yes these guys are so very cool. I am always amazed at how they swivel their heads. I guess that is what makes them such good hunters.
Ok. Looking at the image itself, there are areas that are overexposed and too bright. The forearms for example, the right one looses a bit of detail as it is a tad washed out. The antenna being cut off is also a bit of distraction for the viewer.
I mention these things because you have entered it into a contest and I want this one to do well. Maybe add a little saturation and darken it a bit. Right now it is just a tad bit bright overall. Probably can't do much about the antenna. I can understand why you had to cut them off. One of those darned if you and darned if you don't kind of things.
Good eye for seeing this one John. Best of the best in the contest ~ Steve
