A beautiful picture of the Green Darner Dragonfly perched on a blade of grass in a meadow the light allowing us to see the finest details of her gossamer wings, head & body. Beautiful composition framing and lighting taken with superb camera techniques and sharp focus.

I like these dragonflies. They are so much bigger than the meadowhawk and skimmers. You really captured nice detail of this one. The thorax, wings, legs and face stand out nicely from the background. I like being able to see the lines of the wing design.

Nice job. The picture is clear and the focus is good. It has good lighting as well. I think it looks good the way it is. Nice entry and good luck to you.

Because so much of the color of the dragonfly is lost against the background this has an almost abstract feel to it. The focus is good and the details of the wings and head are strong. But so much of the image is "lost" that it is somewhat bothersome. Nice shot. Good luck in the contest.

Thanks for both the review and well wishes;I would have preferred. A more diffused,non-distracting background, but sometimes you have to take what you get! :)

You made a fine portrait photo of this Lady. How she clings to the grass is interesting. Her "Dress" seems to made to camouflage her. She seems to share the colors with the grass and the wildflowers. Despite her unobtrusive appearance you captured excellent detail. Her head and legs are especially well defined, but her tail and the transparent wings show remarkable detail also. The photo is excellently focused and exposed. The composition is well balanced and framed. Best luck for the contest.

You have created the most whimsical photo of a dragonfly I have ever seen! Love the sharp details in the head and wings. And although the background is "cluttered," you have made it, in a mysterious way, to work!

Thanks so very much for the great review and comments;it would have been nice if she had landed on top of a weed stem, but they tend to hide down in the grass so are unnoticed until you walk through and spook them up.

pity the background is so busy and so bright, the dragonfly is a bit lost on it

still, a nice entry for the contest, good luck with it and thanks for sharing

Thanks, would have liked it to land someplace else, but they do what they want to do.

A very nicely composed shot. You managed to keep the lens plane parallel to that of the wings thereby giving you sharp details throughout. I like the colors but might prefer a background that was a little further behind the insect. But you pretty much have to catch them as you can.

Thanks for the review;yes, you pretty much have to photograph them where they land, unless you are using a captured specimen.

Your adjustments are well managed and have made the dragonfly stand out in vivid detail against the grassy background. The focus is sharp showing very clear and well defined details throughout the dragonfly. Colors are natural. Good luck in the contest.
