Oh yes indeed. This is beyond amazing! I love the symbology of the old ancestor rising out of the ground. I used to be beyond intrigued by the accounts of Tonantzin transforming into the Virgin Mary, as in order to convert the heathen to Christianity, the early Christians basically reinvented Tonantzin, the mother of all life, and weaver of the threads of fortune, and how Tonantzin's spirit was said to be seen by natives, rising out of the first shrine to the virgin holding red roses. The red roses might have been a flower introduced by conquistadors, but roses actually did exist in the wild in the Americas before the arrival of the conquistadors. That must have been hard on polytheistic natives to buy into a monotheistic belief system. Right now my mind is brought back to that topic by trying to trace my English father and grandparents in Uganda, Africa, where my English family were missionaries converting the heathen.. Quite a history there, with many of the same elements as entered into the conquistadors converting Mesoamerica... I only got involved in this as a sideline to trying to validate my father's birth in Uganda in order to obtain my British citizenship. It has all been a very complicated endeavor!

Thank you so much Daphne for your wonderful commentary. Very interesting to learn of new things. I am glad you liked the photo. The street chalk artists are incredibly talented. How they can make a flat chalk drawing look 3D is amazing. Thanks again Daphne ~ Steve

I could indulge in magical thinking and speculate that more than chalk composes this. Mr Jones photographed a 3D (as if) eye out from among some graffiti, and the sense was very similar. It looked alive. You may have seen it, with his boy inspecting it up close due to it looking alive -- in a good way, like this, but this is way larger more expressive. Was there a name associated with this lovely face?

There was no name ascribed to this work of art. I was not there while it was being drawn.

Congratulations on your win with this one Steve! I meant to review this a long time ago too. Your shot of this art is awesome. The light is flattering and the colors are well exposed. The subject is super interesting. I really admire how these artists master the 3D impression appearance of their work.

Thank you so much Tootie. To me the REAL Winner of the contest is the Artist who created this Wonderful work. I am amazed at how someone can create a 3D drawing on a flat street. As an innocent bystander I was fortunate enough to be able to do this Masterpiece at least a bit of the justice it deserved. Thank you for your Great review and Grand rating Tootie ~ Steve

This is a great shot Steve! I imagine it's not easy capturing something on a flat surface from an angle like this. Is this one of those drawings that have to be viewed from a certain spot in order to look right? If so, that kind of art truly is amazing. You did very well capturing all the colors and the 3-D look. Congrats on the contest win!

Dave

Thank you so much David. Yes this amazing art needs to be viewed from a certain angle to get the right perspective. Actually there were a couple that you had to stand on an exact spot and you could only see the 3D through a camera lens. Quite amazing.

The Real Winner of the contest is the Artist who did this wonderful scene. I was just an innocent bystander.

Thank you very much for your review and Grand rating for the Artist David ~ Steve

This artist for sure gets a 20 point sure 6 loll, this is more then excellent as it looks so real even if the composition is a fantasy one
your picture reflects totally the perfection of this painting, clear and sharp in details , fantastic in contrast and lighting, well framed, perfect use of space
in this review both artist and photographer did a more then perfect job, for me this reflect how life is often pushed down not only on the streets but also under the streets and these birds are helping to rise up as her look is directed sky and the heavens - older people are often pushed into the streets in Latin America and this is like a hammer on our consciousness to create a change (and we will)
