It is not often I see you doing work like this on a photo Willie, but it is actually very effective. By looking at the background I Guess that this guy is a musician. You are right, he is quite a character, and you have pictured him so well.
The photo is Sharp With Clear details, and I like that you have presented the portrait in black and white, It is fine distinctions between light and dark, and well exposed.
The cropping is working well and Your friend has got a fine placement within the frame. I think this is a creative and well taken photo, and I wish you Luck With the contest.

Very well done portrait shot, really shows character. This photo reminds me of Professor Dumbledore in the Harry Potter movies, looks quite a bit like that character! A very well done portrait shot.

The black and white monochromatic emphasizes the lines of his face and his long hair and beard. His serene face expression is fascinating and gripping.
