What a great face! I'm glad you caught such a nice close up because I really think this guy has the most handsome face. Your colors are nicely exposed and the texture of his coat and antlers look good.

A beautifully composed shot with that doe in the background. I like the white snow and the fine colors in the buck. The details are well shown and his eye is fantastic.

This is a great photo and composition. What does eight point buck mean? Size or weight? The bucks are so much bigger than the does. This photo shows that and is very sharply focused. Thank you for sharing

Hi Pam! More than happy to explain,as i recently did for nikman, perhaps I should do a class! The antler that grows from the skull is often referred to as the main beam, tines grow up off the main beam and are often referred to as points, you can see in this photo that he has two tines near the base of each antler, which are referred to as brow tines. A tine can be counted as a point as long as it is at least one inch in height. The end of the main beam is also considered a point. So if you count the brow tine and end of the main beam, and the tines growing up from the main beam, there are 4 tines or points on each side, therefore he is an 8 point buck.He unfortunately broke off a tine on his left side, most likely a result of fighting with another buck. Hope this helps;thanks so very much for your review and extra star!

This is an excellent portrait. The photo is perfectly focused and exposed. The details of body, head and antlers are excellently refined. The colors are realistic. The background is informative. The doe passing by is part of the story. It looks as if there is already some snow in the area. The tall framing is adequate. The portrait is balanced.

Thank you,the deer in the background is a doe,one that he may have been chasing, hence the title.

A very good nature shot posted here! Your fine and classical composition grants us a very enjoyable portrait to enjoy. Now starting to get a grip on antler terminology! Exposure and sharpness are good. Well taken!

Another fine wild life shot. The buck looks so handsome and has innocent look! The light and shadows, colours and the composition have worked out well. Good effort!
