This truly is a somber photo, thank you for sharing. Angle of the tombstone; large, center tree in the background; and grey sky frame the scene well. Removing the 2 left corner tombstones would clear the small distraction.
Thank you for providing the history - very interesting.

Grace,
A beautiful & interesting picture of this Military Cemetery with the 225,000 white headstones in equidistant rows with the eye-catching tree on the horizon drawing the eye into the heart of the picture. Beautiful composition framing and lighting of this special place that keeps alive the memories of those who gave their all to the country they loved. Taken with superb camera techniques and sharp focus.

I like how you composed this with the rows of graves and the tree in the middle. The cloudy sky adds to the somber tone of this scene. A good reminder of all of the men and women who have sacrificed their lives for our country.

A nicely composed shot. I like the balance of the trees and the seemingly endless rows of gravestones. The details are meticulously shown and the colors are quite natural looking.

This is a powerful perspective of a somber image. To me I see the graves all connecting to The Life Source of a Tree. Their lives have had much meaning and value and will not be forgotten. Beautifully portrayed, excellent camera skills and thank you Grace for sharing!

If a person looks only at the structure of this picture, there is beauty in its structure of objects uniformity juxtaposed against background natural randomness. It is visually worth a five star vote. On the emotional side, I cannot speak to the value of the picture as I know what lies beneath the ground and some of them, if not here, then in similar locations and circumstances. I also do not wish to be pictorially educated. So, it is unlikely that I will ever critique this subject matter again. But for the first reason I have voted five star.

I truly appreciate that you took the time to review this in spite of whatever apprehension was involved. I was paying respects to family at Fort Snelling and was drawn to the visual of the uniformity of the headstones and the shape and colors of the trees growing between them in the background. My intentions with this image were purely artistic. Thank you again for reviewing it and for the five stars :)

You are welcome and you succeeded artistically. It is just that some things make my survivor's guilt smash through to the surface. I apologize for causing you any stress.

There is nothing to apologize for at all :) I am sorry that you have had to endure that kind of trauma in your life.

A very good photo of an important rememberance location. Like the trees contrasting with the headstones. Exposure and sharpness are good. Nicely done!

Your perspective in lining up the markers adds a lot of depth and a military feeling to this shot. Placement of the solitary tree between the center rows is an excellent touch. To me it represents the "lone survivor" among all those who gave all. Must admit, I couldn't comment on this any sooner as it brought back too many memories. Thank you for sharing that shot as it says, "gone, but not forgotten"! A visual 6 as I am out of the real ones.

Thank you Charlie. I don't mean to be pushing your emotional buttons with my posts! I was there 'visiting' family. Gone but not forgotten would have been a great title.

No problem Grace. I appreciate your taking time to pay your respects to your family. To those who served in your family I offer a slow hand salute out of pure respect. I'm just an emotional old guy when it comes to the military. Arlington, where I have friends, and Normandy both totally overwhelmed me.

Thank you Charlie :) I think it's overwhelming too. For people who haven't served and especially those who have served.

The photo is impressive. It is a reminder how fast our imagines security of freedom can be shattered. It is a memorial for all who lost their life to the inhumanity of wars. The photo is perfectly composed. The tree in the center of the photo and the center of the rows of the rows of gravestones gives an exquisite perspective. The photo is perfect focused and exposed and framed. The composition is balanced.

Perfect title for this one! This serves to remind of of all who gave their lives to allow us to enjoy our freedoms . This is a well captured image with the white grave markers and the perfectly groomed grass , the trees are beautiful and the sky in the silvery white tones is perfect for this subject matter. Well focused, clear image with perfect exposure. Well composed from a nice angle of shot, well presented!

Thank you Pat. I was going to title it Uniform in reference to the headstones and the soldiers, but changed my mind after viewing it some more :)
