Nice photo and appreciate the information on the jay and how it has been preyed upon - really sad.
The lighting on the left side of its body really shows off its colors well, especially as it is contrasted against the black background.

A very nice shot with excellent focus on that beautiful blue eye. I would prefer to see his feet but understand the reluctance to show the feeder. That is why I would mount some kind of a more photogenic perch nearby and wait for him to land on it.
