Thanks for sharing the background on hippos - did not know they were that dangerous. Great capture of the one with the open mouth. The others lay low lurking. Very distinctive gold color reflecting on the water. Nice work :)

No thanks-lol! I think I'll keep my distance and stay out of the water and away from the river bank. A great panoramic crop of these hippos,I'd say there were about nine in this photo,it was nice for the one to open wide giving us a good look at the inside of his mouth. A great composition with good focus and colors,the water with it's golden reflection is quite lovely. Many thanks for sharing!

This is a very cool photo of these hippos grouped together in the golden sunlight! The open mouth and the glowing golden eyes make them appear frightening which is a good thing because they are so dangerous.

Well they can keep waiting ! I wouldn't go near them after reading your notes , before being on this sight I had no idea how dangerous hippos are!
This is a good image to show their behavior and how they group together in the water, this must have been an incredible experience ! Well composed and presented! I like the golden light reflecting in the water!

I remember being surprised as a child to learn that Cape Buffalo were more dangerous to people than lions and to subsequently learn that it is hippos that actually kill more people than any other species was a revelation. This image is great view of the hippos in their natural setting. I like the composition and the fine colors.

    thanks so much again;
    yes, African Buffalo are number two..

Your explanation of the dangers associated with hippos is well emphasized by the looks in the yes of the two facing forward. It is further punctuated by the highlighted tusks and size of the mouth on one of them. A good sign might be "Leave your attitude onshore". Just curious, do the crocs stay away from the hippos??

An interesting image of a wide open hippo's mouth in the golden light. While the other hippo's are in various poses.
Great clear details. Good panoramic view and nicely composed. Thanks for sharing and the information!

Fred,
A beautiful of these Hippos wallowing in the water one with an open mouth lit up by a sunbeam to show off it's dangerous tusks while most of the others are content just watching you. Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

WOW - the one in the Paraguayan Zoo is then an angel as he comes close and asks for bread by opening his mount and people through him bred in and he likes it
super front view - well adapted framing - clear and sharp with perfect contrast and lighting - I specially love the luminosity in this shot and the way they sit all in me line
excellent composition with a great visual impact and again great introduction, well done

They will have to wait a long time to get me, as I have no desire to go to Africa! Your full and central composition gives us a good sense of the situation out there. Exposure and sharpness are good. Nicely taken!
