fantastic portrait. so much detail, even the ribbing on his knitted hat, the hairs in his moustache, his scarf and the bones under his folds of skin. Art they real or do you see someone, get down the basics then fill them into a full picture?

your detail work is beyond perfection in this portrait design , shadow and light application really bring every tiny detail right to the light

Very well done Rick. This 'Old salt' has many stories to tell without a doubt. Very detailed and realistic rendering. Shows the weathered appearance of one who has seen and done many things and truly belongs to the sea.

Amazing drawing, I love the detail. I just look into his eyes wondering, thinking. Wow what kind of life he has lived. Probably a pretty cool one. I mean with a mustache like that you have to be pretty cool. Great detail and what a great subject. Thanks for sharing it. John

You certainly gave this fellow a lot of character. This very closely resembles a BW photo. I like the way you blended the greys together very smoothly. Very Nice job of presenting this and a joy to view! :o) Helvi

Although I am not fond of close closeups the rendering is well done in proportionality and shading. Given the description of being done with a graphite pencil I can't help but to wonder how the white strand lines in the mustache were done. Reasons for my five star vote.

Tough portrait of a tough man. The eyes are very expressive showing a personality that has seen maybe a little to much of some parts of life. Your portrait is a very realistic rendition of many of the "elder" fishermen I have spent time with on the ocean. It clearly shows the impact the elements have had. Better yet, it shows the real character and strength of the man who has spent many years surviving on a daily basis. The intensity of his experiences and his spirit show clearly through his eyes.
