I would love to see this bird in person some day.
Your photo is sharp and it PROVES one can get correct colors of their subject in flat light. I appreciate the correct white balance control on ALL the colors of the bird.
Fine focus, great eye clarity and great feather details.
Fine bird Photography Pat!

Thank you so much Sandra! They come in small flocks and it took me a while to get a shot, they were very flighty and would fly off as soon as I stepped out onto my deck, I had to just stand there very still and now they will stay in the tree .

Time to get a bird suit! Or have hubby cut out a porthole!! ;)

I?ll tell him that you said he needs to cut a porthole ! It takes time for some of the birds to realize I mean them no harm,I have made friends with the Steller Jays and most recently a magpie, they will both take peanuts from my hand!

;) I make friends with all wild life.. I use the voice you use to talk to babies.
Or my Sweet boy Jasper ;)
I am sure these birds will learn you mean them no harm. ;)

very lovely photograph of a little Redpoll. He is looking pretty warm with his extra heavy down feathers. You do a wonderful job with whites against whites. every white stands out

Very sharply focused with well defined details throughout the bird. The softened background and the snow on the branch provide excellent contrast to show off the vividness and variety of the birds colors. Well done in every aspect.

:):) What a rolypoly cute fella! You have taken this shot very well. Looks as though he is posing for you proudly! The colours, light and composition have worked well. Good effort!

what a little cutie Pat; he seems prepared for a harsh winter with his thick fur made of feathers; I like his red hat; taken n a dull day without shadows; excellent sharp details;

This is a beautiful little bird portrait is perfectly cropped to make this bird the focus of attention while showing part of the environment within which it sets. I also find myself wanting to hang around a bit to look at it in detail. Nice. Reasons for my five star vote.

You are right he is looking cute and he feels full and strong and may there come what comes he will stand it - well prepared and your feeder helps him to be conformable - I love your composition with the branch seeming to be at the floor looking like his thrown
excellent close up , clear and sharp into details - I love the genuine contrast and lighting - perfect exposure and well adapted framing
a cute bird shot - thanks for sharing

Pat,
A beautiful picture of this puffed up Redpoll on a snow covered branch against a snowy sky. Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

Indeed, gorgeous bird. I have always wanted to see 'in the face' of a bird. Does it have an expression or is it thoughtless, well no, it can't be, because they fly massive amounts from north to south and vice versa, so is it just instinct? If there is thought, this lovely little chap is merely thinking: blimey, it's cold - methinks!

Such a cute little guy bearing up in the snow and my it looks cold!
A great close up with very good clarity and focus showing us clear details of his feathers and sweet face; interesting touch of red on his head. A pleasure to view Pat.
