A duck with an acorn! Now this is unique. I wonder if you hung around long enough to see what he did with it.
Live the colors and the head feathers on these ducks.
Fine focus, exposure with nice clarity.
Nice work Fred ;)

    thanks a lot Sandra for your nice comments;
he went during about 10 minutes behind a small island, came back with it and disappeared again: when he came back he didn't have it anymore; obviously he neither swallow nor break it

This is a cool picture Fred. I don't think I have ever seen a mandarin duck with an acorn, and the acorn stands out very well with the nice clear focus of the face.

Fred,
A beautiful & colourful picture of this Mandarin drake creating circular ripples as it swims with an Acorn in his beak, the light dancing on the ripples that reflect the sky above. Artistic composition framing and lighting taken with superb camera techniques and sharp focus.

I see wood ducks quite often but have only seen this beauty in captivity. A nicely composed image with excellent detail that shows the acorn as well as his gorgeous plumage in great color.

Beautiful attractive captivating shot at first site - this bird has such beautiful colors and of course you cached him in a special moment having some nice goody in his beak
super view point beautiful framing with just him and his self created ripples - a world by its own
perfect sharpness, contrast and lighting, a great composition with a perfect visual initial impact - well reacted and well done

This simple subject matter has very aesthetic features all around: the intricate and colorful patterns in the water's ripples, the many colors of the bird, and the great sharpness and detail everywhere. I think this is a really nice photo, and I like your backstory behind the photo, you make them more interesting and intriguing to look at.

This photo is very sharply focused and shows the details and the variety of colors in the duck very clearly. Capturing it with the acorn makes it more interesting and makes it stand out from the usual Mandarin Duck portrait shot. This is worthy of 6 stars, but I am afraid I only can give you a virtual one this time.

Beautiful mandarin duck! Perfect timing to capture him with the acorn in his bill,
Nice position in the frame in a lovely pose allowing a good look at his side profile,
I see good detail over every part of this gorgeous duck, I love his clear eye!
Well focused, the image is sharp and clear, lighting is correctly managed, the colors and tones appear natural. I like the ripples in the water too!
Well composed and presented!

Clever boy, now what are you going to do with it? You don't look big enough to eat by yourself! Your fine and off-centre composition allows us a good look at your colourful duck and its catch. Exposure and sharpness are good. Nicely done!
