A beautiful stop action picture of this Tricoloured Heron taking off from the water the sun on it's back so it casts a shadow on the water as it flies over making it easier to see potential prey swimming below. Beautiful composition framing and lighting that highlights it beautiful skate grey plumage with pale cinnamon & near white plumes on it's neck & back. Taken with superb camera techniques and sharp focus. Good luck in the contest.

Bird looks sharp but I think the position and lighting could be a little better. The light is a bit harsh...midday or close to it? I think the image would be greatly enhanced if the bird was out of the water all the way and you could see both legs and wings in flight. Crop is great. Good image.
